Quinta de Santiago – A Small Winery Situated Among Scenic Landscapes
Settled in the panoramic terroirs of Monção and Melgaço, Quinta de Santiago is a boutique winery in Portugal, characterized by Minho River Valley and rolling mountains. The winery cultivates flagship Alvarinho, a native white grape variety, and produces top-quality white, rose, and sparkling wines. Guests are welcome to explore our manor house, overlooking the granary, the emblematic Chapel of Sir S. João Batista.
A Modern Winery with a Traditional Touch
Owned by the same family since 1899, Quinta De Santiago is operated by the fourth generation of winemakers of the Santiago family. For over 100 years, the family indulged in producing wines, olive oil, lupine, fruits, milk, etc. for domestic consumption. In 2009, under the ownership of Mariazinha, her children and grandchildren gave life to a boutique winery, replicating their forefathers’ way of working. The first vintage of 2012 was marketized in 2014 after two years of aging and refining. Today, three generations of the Santiago family work with great enthusiasm, combining tradition and knowledge of ancestors with the innovation of young winemakers.
Viticulture and Winemaking in the Sub-Region
Cradled in the heart of Vinhos Verdes, the vineyards are expanded over the territory of 7.5 hectares, where the focus is on one grape variety, Avarinho. The rows of vines extend from the Minho River valley and its tributaries, reaching the mountains and adapting to various terrain, finding themselves in the perfect microclimate. Joana Santiago, the current owner and young winemaker, works in the vineyards, accompanied by her family members, to produce aromatic wines. Respecting the tradition and balancing the ecosystem, most of the vineyard work is manual.
