The perfect glass of wine on a hot summer’s day is the Quinta de Silvoso Vinho Verde from the Azal grape. It has a slight effervescence to it. We also had the sparkling (espumante) wine from the same grape which was also great! Award winning winemaker Ricardo Mendes gave us a tour of this small, family run vineyard, which his father converted from his grandfather’s livestock farm into a full vineyard in 1987. It is nestled in the hills of Amarante, but only a 10 minute drive from central Amarante. The passion and family history is evident from Ricardo and his partner. I would highly recommend taking a tour with him!

Real & authentic. This is a wonderful family run vineyard nestled in the hillside near Amarante. The host is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their wine. The wine is delicious and you will leave feeling delighted you came. Highly recommend a visit here.

We had one of the best cellar door visits ever, when we were hosted by Rita whilst in the Amarante Region last month. Rita spent a good hour with us, talking us through the history of the vineyard and the wines. The tasting room is an old stone house full of interesting antiques and character, which really adds to the experience. The wines are really delicious, even more so when given the full explanation from Rita. Highly recommend to make the trip out to Qunita de Silvoso if you are in the area
