First Steps Towards Great Wines
Agriculture runs through the veins of the Mendes’ family, responsible for establishing the Quinta de Silvoso Winery in an authentic and greenish land of the Vinho Verde region, Portugal. It was in the ’80s that António Mendes walked the first steps of Quinta de Silvoso, bringing a pearl of agricultural wisdom starting his business working with livestock parallel to viticulture. It didn’t take much time for him to realize the especial potential of the terroir that his feet stood in, by 1985 Mendes extended his vineyard planting new vines aiming toward intensive viticulture.

With an eye on increasing the wine quality, the Quinta de Silvoso always look after natural resources, respecting the environment, and working on minimizing their impact on nature. Always focusing on development, new horizons stood in front of Quinta de Silvoso in 1998, when they launched the first estate sparkling wine.
A Familiar Winery in The Heart of Vinho Verde
Genuinely familiar, António Mendes manages the Quinta de Silvoso Winery with the help from his son Ricardo Mendes, in charge of enology and exports, his daughter Rita Mendes, in charge of the domestic wine market, and, finally, his daughter-in-law, Ana Carvalho, in charge of the wine sector. The family produces around 200.000 liters of wine from grapes such as Azal, Vinhão, Espadeiro, Arinto, and Loureiro in the heart of the Portuguese Vinho Verde region.
