The Winery is an International Benchmark for Wines
Decorated by the Minho landscape in Portugal’s northernmost part, Soalheiro is a family-owned winery located in Melgaço. The word ‘Soalheiro’ is derived from the vineyards exposed to the sun throughout the year, bearing a name – a sunny place. Protected by the mountains’ range, the winery is known for its flagship Alvarinho grapes, planted organically on various estate-owned small plots.
Quinta de Soalheiro is the Result of Forty Years of Sheer Dedication
The winemaking and grape farming traditions have been running in the Cerdeira family for many years. A true seed was sown in 1974 when João António Cerdeira planted the first Alvarinho, accompanied by his father, António Esteves Ferreira. The first production line came out in 1982, making Quinta de Soalheiro the first winery in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço to produce Alvarinho wines. Today, the winemaking family delivers excellent red, white, rose, and sparkling wines, along with herbal tea extracts. Visit the company’s website to learn the art of making unique herbal tea blends.
Organic Vine Cultivation Using Traditional Methods
Soalheiro Winery is blessed with a multidisciplinary and proactive team of winemakers, vintners, and wine-growers. Respecting the biodiversity, the group grows several grape varieties, combined with Alvarinho. It includes Loureiro, Vinhão, Touriga Nacional, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. The determination to improve the production line with each harvest is constant.
