Seven Sisters winery: a jewel on the Western coast

A 100% black women-owner, first generation winery in the heart of the Wine Lands in Stellenbosch, the Seven Sisters Vineyards are a jewel of the Western Cape viticulture in South Africa. It is the brand started by Vivian Kleynhans in 2005, with the dream to change their destiny and to build a legacy for her family. But the history of the Seven Sister Vineyards goes back several more years to the Brutus Family, who was evicted from their home, after their father lost his job in Paternoster, a village in the Western Cape famously known for its fishing.

Realising the dream together

In truth, it really is a heart-warming story. The seven Brutus sisters and their brother grew up in a disadvantage community following the eviction, but twenty years later were reunited and began working towards realising their vision of creating African Roots Wine Brands. With Vivian Kleynhans at the helm –– the same self-taught wine entrepreneur Vivian Kleynhans –– the Seven Sisters winery is a winemaking force to be reckoned with.

This dream is to plant vines and produce fine, delicious and breathtakingly wines for local and international markets was realised in 2012 when Chardonnay and Shiraz vineyards were planted in a section of barren land in Stellenbosch which belonged to the Brutus Family. Today, a wide variety of grapes, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscato, Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Cape Blend are cultivated to produce exciting blends of red and white wines.
