A Legacy of Passion and Quality in Vinho Verde
The History of Solar Das Bouças
Solar Das Bouças has a rich history that dates back to the early 17th century. Originally, the estate featured cornfields, orchards, vegetable gardens, and pine forests. Over 50 years ago, the manor house was in disrepair until Albano Castro Sousa acquired it and transformed it into a respected winery, one of the first to recognize the potential of farm wines. The Solar das Bouças brand quickly gained a reputation for quality. In 1989, the property was sold to the Van Zeller family, who established “Solar das Bouças – Sociedade Vitivinícola, S.A.” After the company disbanded, Fernando Van Zeller took ownership of the estate, initiating a new chapter. He restored the manor house and planted new vines, introducing diverse grape varieties. Today, the estate is owned by an investment company led by António Ressurreição, who describes the purchase as a heartfelt commitment to viticulture.
Vines and Wines of the Winery
At Solar Das Bouças, all wines are crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the estate. Spanning 34 hectares, 24 are dedicated to vineyards, with the Loureiro variety dominating the landscape. Additionally, 4 hectares are planted with Alvarinho grapes, located at the entrance of the estate, and the Arinto variety, known locally as Pedernã. Under the guidance of Álvaro van Zeller, the winery produces fresh, light wines characterized by their fruity notes and exceptional quality. The commitment to using estate-grown grapes ensures that each bottle reflects the unique terroir of the Vinho Verde region.
