A Historic Tuscan Winery Crafting Exceptional Wines
Tenuta La Novella is nestled in the picturesque heart of Tuscany, strategically located between Florence and Siena within the renowned Chianti Classico region. This winery is operated by a dedicated team of winemakers who prioritize natural and sustainable practices, ensuring their wines are free from chemical additives.
A Rich History of Tenuta La Novella
The history of Tenuta La Novella is as captivating as its wines. Originally built as a watchtower in the 1300s to protect the valley entrance to Florence, it later transformed into a convent for nuns. By the 19th century, it had evolved into an agricultural estate, but its grandeur faded over the years. In 1996, François Schneider took on the ambitious task of restoring the estate to its former glory, breathing new life into this historic property.
Natural Winemaking Practices
At Tenuta La Novella, grapes are meticulously hand-harvested in multiple stages to ensure only the ripest fruit is selected. A second selection in the cellar guarantees optimal sanitary conditions, which is crucial for producing high-quality wines. Fermentation occurs naturally, utilizing the wild yeasts and bacteria present on the grapes. To enhance the wines' character, they are aged in a variety of vessels, including large cement tanks, stainless steel, wooden barrels, and stoneware jars. The timing for racking and bottling is thoughtfully aligned with lunar cycles, reflecting a deep respect for nature in the winemaking process.
