Unfortunately, the large greenhouses were closed. But the great importance attached to botany here from a very early stage is clearly evident in the audio guide. And "Goethe's Palm" grew well.

Such a nice place as evidenced by the UNESCO world heritage designation. Helpfully staffed by University of Padova students whose patience is met with broad language skills. I went in what might generously be called the most fallow period possible and it was a tranquil oasis. For 2025 (and perhaps a year beyond) the main draw the modern greenhouses are being rehabilitated. That issues aside, the botanical museum is one of house astoundingly interesting places - typical of the best Italian museum designs which are world class. One of my favourites in the US is Smith College, with its analog delights - but Padova tells the story of each of its directors, and the extraordinary women who worked on the collection. I learned so much there but one item - the Goethe Palm is viewable in the gardens, then in the fantastic lecture hall the visitor is treated to an excellent video from 2023 showing how transformational his (and by extension yours) will be by closely studying plants. Peter Greenaway (not sure if he ever visited) would love this collection, especially the little boxes of taxonomically correct seeds (exactly 100 per box). A fantastic visit that is academic in all the best ways.

Orto Botanico di Padova – The Oldest Botanical Garden in the World The Orto Botanico di Padova is not just a beautiful garden—it’s a living piece of history. One of its most famous residents is Goethe’s Palm, planted in 1585, which inspired the German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s studies on plant evolution. In addition to its historical charm, the modern Biodiversity Garden showcases plants from all climate zones, housed in state-of-the-art glasshouses. The mix of ancient botanical heritage and innovative conservation efforts makes this garden one of the most unique in the world. A must-visit for plant lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in Padua. Absolutely worth it – 5/5!

Located near Prato della Vale, it is a central place where you can find 1/1.5 hours of tranquility and fresh air. The INTERACTIVE SCREENS are a great idea to get the kids involved!!! Very friendly staff. Small souvenir shop at the entrance. PRICE adult €10, children - up to 13 years - FREE. Audio guide included in the price. Visited in January 2025. I put 4* as certain rooms with live plants are neglected. TO VISIT in spring until autumn. We found some pavilions closed for maintenance. There is PAID PARKING 15 minutes walk away.

Beautiful trip today to the botanical garden, really well kept, with a great variety of plants and an interesting botanical story to tell! I was lucky enough to have a guided tour with the university, so I was able to appreciate the beauty and commitment behind the conservation of the species. I recommend everyone to visit if you are in Padua, it is an unmissable place

The museum is simple, but I enjoyed the mini quizzes, a fun and interactive way of learning. However, there is not much to see in the garden, especially in autumn. It would make much more sense to be free entrance and only pay for the museum.

Perhaps the oldest botanical garden in Europe. Very large and beautiful, picturesque corners, large spaces with the huge current greenhouses (currently being renovated) and, smaller, the 19th century greenhouses. There are also interesting routes with the possibility of games and activities for children plus a covered area with a photographic exhibition and a small cinema. From this place you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the Basilica del Santo, which is just a few minutes' walk away.

I spent about 2 hours visiting the Botanical Garden of Padua. It is a very interesting place. It is the oldest university botanical garden in the world and one of the most beautiful places to visit in the city of Padua. The gardens are very well cared for and host a large quantity and variety of plants from all over the world, including poisonous plants and plants used as medicines, which have been cultivated for centuries. The guide was very thorough in explaining the most important plants in the garden and I really liked this. The Botanical Garden of Padua is a suitable place to discover Padua and nature.

Historical botanical garden. There is a free audio tour with lots of interesting details. Toilets are available at several spots in the garden. The tour takes about 2 hours. We really enjoyed it and will be back.

The oldest botanical garden in Europe (16th century) is magical! It is structured by the 4 cardinal points. The botanical collections are then ordered according to their origins. The historic garden is really beautiful. There are benches to sit on. The Botanical Museum adjoins the historic garden. On the opposite side, there is a modern complex on biodiversity. The shop is very limited. No catering on site

A really different botanical garden experience. It is a historic garden that is built upon its early foundation as a place to study botany and its use in medicine, etc. not too big and very accessible and well looked after. It has a palm that was planted in 1500’s and many other old and new trees, shrubs, herbs, flowers and water plants. A relaxing afternoon.

Oldest botanical garden in the world? Well thought out and organized, well maintained and well labeled, with a few eye-catchers, like the Goethe palm. We saw a mimosa and a persimmon tree here for the first time. You can really spend the day here ;) The museum was also worth a visit. We also spotted ring-necked parakeets here. A very well-located garden near the historic center. A beautiful and interesting experience surrounded by hundreds of plants. A peaceful and quiet visit with plenty of shade, which is appreciated in summer. An informative museum with ancient herbariums and a documentary about Goethe's experience in the middle of this garden. It's a shame that the tropical plant greenhouses are closed on Sundays, with no discount on the admission price.

A great place to find some fresh air. A very interesting collection of plants. However, the greenhouses are closed on Sundays in summer??? All that's left to explore is the garden, which can be toured in a leisurely 2 hours. The reasonable price is €10.

Basically, a beautiful garden with a wide selection, well-stocked plants, and some truly exceptional specimens. However, there are also many beds that are empty, dried out, or otherwise dead. Some plants in pots, which are beautifully displayed, don't look good. It's a real shame: the greenhouses aren't open to visitors year-round. What a pity.

I loved it, it's a shame I couldn't see the greenhouse because it was closed to the public. Allow at least 4 hours to see it calmly.💯

A must-do!! The Botanical Garden of Padua is the first botanical garden in the world. Incredible species. The place is charming, very well maintained. A must-see in Padua. The entrance ticket allows a discount in other museums in Padua.

Beautiful university botanical garden in the city center of Padua (Padova), one of the oldest in the world. The place is rather large but the entrance is relatively expensive (10€). Prefer to buy the ticket online during the holiday period
