A Serene Boutique Winery in the Franschhoek Valley
Topiary Wines – A Hidden Gem in the Franschhoek Valley
Topiary Wines is a charming boutique winery nestled in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley of South Africa. Surrounded by the majestic Klein Drakenstein Mountains, this estate offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere. Located on a gentle slope in the foothills, the winery features lush plum trees that enhance the natural beauty of the landscape. Originally established as La Tramontane, the winery transitioned to Topiary Wines in 2005 when renowned wine producer Phillipe Colin acquired the 64-hectare property, which includes a wine cellar and tasting room built by the previous owner.
The cool mountain climate at Topiary Wines is ideal for cultivating premium South African grapes.
Hand-Harvested Grapes for Exceptional Quality
The unique climate, rainfall, and soil conditions in the region create the perfect environment for grape cultivation. Skilled vineyard workers handpick the finest grapes, which are then transported to the winery using a gravity flow system for minimal handling. Visitors can also enjoy the artistic sculptures scattered throughout the property, adding to the winery's charm.
Main Grape Varieties and Guest Accommodations
Topiary Wines primarily grows Chardonnay, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, producing high-quality red and white wines. For those wishing to extend their stay, cozy cottages are available on the estate, allowing guests to relax and savor the delightful wines, delicious food, and serene surroundings.
