Topiary Wines – a Boutique Winery Located in the Franschhoek Valley
Topiary Wines is located in the Franschhoek Valley wine region of South Africa. This boutique winery is surrounded by the Klein Drakenstein Mountains and provides a stunning natural view. Nestled on a gentle lower mountain slope in the foothills, the estate allows for a quiet and serene visit to the region. Plum trees are also planted throughout their estate, adding diversity to the landscape. Initially, the winery was only growing grapes until 2005, called La Tramontane. The previous owner built a wine cellar and tasting room at the estate and thus opened Topiary Wines 15 years ago. Famous and critically-acclaimed wine producer, Phillipe Colin, fell in love with the sixty-four-hectare farm and bought the estate.
The surrounding mountains at Topiary Wines create a cool atmosphere that leads to the growth of fresh, high-quality South African grapes.
Hand-Harvested Grapes, Preserving Quality
The climate, rainfall, and soils in the region are perfect for cultivating vines at Topiary Wines. Vineyard workers handpick the best grapes and take them to the winery for further processing. Transfer of grapes into fermentation tanks takes place through a gravity flow system. There are many beautiful and artistic sculptures on the property to delight and amaze their visitors.
Main Grape Varieties Grown and Guest Accomodations
The main types of grapes grown are Chardonnay, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes go into the production of their high-quality red and white wines. Cottages are available on the farm for their visitors. People can relax over their stay and enjoy good wines, good food, and pleasant surroundings.
