Excellent Winegrowing Conditions of Selztal
The Weingut Braunwell is a family-owned winery located in the Rheinhessen region and is in close proximity to the Rhine River and the cities of Frankfurt and Mainz. The goal of the company is to make long-lasting and distinct wines for their customers by making the best use of the resources and excellent winegrowing conditions in their home of Selztal. Braunewell is now in its second generation and has always remained at its seat in Essenheim. In the 1960s, Adam Braunewell bottled his first wine and planted the vines in the prime locations along with his family. Axel and Ursula have modernized the winery with their passion for winemaking and viticulture, and their sons, Stefan and Christian, will keep the family tradition going after them.
Sustainability as a Primary Goal
Their estate vineyards are present in the prime locations of Klopp, Blume, and Teufelspfad. The different soils affected by limestones of the ancient ocean riffs and a cool climate provide conditions to make high-quality wines. In the vineyards, they work intensively and adapt to the varieties to generate premium-quality grapes, which will be hand-picked and hand-selected before their soft pressing and fermentation. Sustainability is their primary attribute, and they make use of solar power and rainwater to protect natural resources. It helps in preserving the environment and the longevity of their vines. The main grape varietals on their farm include Riesling, Grauer Burgunder, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Spätburgunder, St. Laurent, Portugieser, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc. These grapes are used to make their red, white, rose, sparkling, and dessert wines.
