Weingut Braunewell is a family-owned winery nestled in the picturesque Rheinhessen region, near the Rhine River and the vibrant cities of Frankfurt and Mainz. Established in Essenheim, the estate has been in the Braunewell family for two generations. Adam Braunewell bottled his first wine in the 1960s, planting vines in prime locations with his family. Today, Axel and Ursula continue this legacy, modernizing the winery with their passion for winemaking, while their sons, Stefan and Christian, are poised to carry on the family tradition.
The estate's vineyards are located in the renowned Klopp, Blume, and Teufelspfad sites. The diverse soils, shaped by ancient ocean reefs, combined with a cool climate, create ideal conditions for producing high-quality wines. The team at Weingut Braunewell focuses on sustainable practices, utilizing solar power and rainwater to conserve natural resources and protect the environment. Their main grape varieties include Riesling, Grauer Burgunder, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Spätburgunder, St. Laurent, Portugieser, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc. These grapes are carefully hand-picked and selected to create a range of red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines that showcase the essence of their terroir.

Write a reviewA wonderful experience at the Braunewell winery! My mom and I went to the Braunewell wine shop last Friday to buy wine and we loved it! T. gave us extremely friendly and competent advice. She responded wonderfully to our wishes and accompanied us very pleasantly through the selection with her expertise. We particularly liked the relaxed and personal atmosphere. We were able to experience different wines, which helped us find our favorites. I especially liked the sweet wines! The wine shop itself is beautifully and very comfortably furnished - just the right place to choose good wine in peace. The events on offer also sound exciting and promising. We look forward to taking part in it soon. Last but not least: Braunewell's wines are simply convincing across the board. We are thrilled with the quality and look forward to enjoying it. Thank you very much for this special experience – we would love to come back!

Great winery with a nice wide range of interesting wines. We were there for the vintage tasting and it was a great event. You could try all the wines free of charge and get a lot of information from those serving them.

Great location with some delicious wines. We didn't like every wine. Only the expensive wines and sparkling wine were tasty. The sweet wines are very good. The wine shop is very, very nice. Nice winemaker and friendly employees.

Currently our favorite for Rheinhessen wines. It's a shame that the beautiful wine shop is so rarely open and only small samples are possible. A small menu would be a dream ;)
