A Premier Winery in Rheinhessen, Flonheim
Meyerhof Winery began its commitment to organic farming in 2017, completing the transition for the 2020 vintage. Spanning twelve hectares, the winery features exceptional vineyard sites such as "La Roche," "Geisterberg," and "Rotenpfad." The focus on organic practices enhances the unique characteristics of each vineyard layer, resulting in healthy, fully ripened grapes cultivated with care and manual labor.
Climate at Meyerhof Winery
The geological history of the Rheinhessen region, marked by ancient rock formations and fossils, contributes to its unique climate. This area, characterized by cold temperatures, is ideal for producing mineral-rich and crisp wines. The diverse soil types, particularly the Rotliegend, impart a distinct minerality and spiciness to the wines. The rocky, quartz-rich soil allows vines to absorb and retain water effectively, leading to full-bodied, fruity, and mineral-driven wines.
Terroir of Meyerhof Winery
The winery's standout vineyard is a 40-year-old Riesling plot located on a southern slope, where calcareous siltstone, claystone, and sandstone from 280 million years ago create a rich soil profile. Ghost Mountain, another vineyard site, features sandstone typical of Flonheim, shaped during the Rotliegend period. The unique red path vineyard is distinguished by its volcanic rock, specifically basalt, formed from ancient lava flows. This diverse terroir allows for exceptional water retention, resulting in wines that are both fruity and mineral-laden.
