Our small family-run winery with 11 hectares of vineyards is located in the western part of Rheinhessen - far away from the well-known areas. This part is unique, because nowhere else in Rheinhessen do vines grow on volcanic rock. This volcanic rock, also known as porphyry, is our passion. Together with an impressive landscape of 1000 hills, these are the best conditions for elegant wines with character.

Little by little we have specialized in Riesling, because no other German grape variety shows so precisely and impressively where it has grown.

But Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also an important part of our range.

The landscape in our area is pretty unique and interesting:

The volcanic soils are not the only special feature: around 30 million years ago, the primordial sea broke up where our vines stand today. It is not uncommon to find fossilized oysters, shark teeth or fossils while working in the vineyard.

We cultivate our vineyards organically - and with great dedication. A lot of manual work and the pursuit of quality lead to unique wines with ageing potential.

If you come to our winery, take a seat in our beautiful courtyard, have a wine tasting with some traditional food or make a little guided tour to a beautiful ruin in the vineyards and learn about culture, winemaking and geology.

The Mertz winery produces exceptionally good wines, divided into estate, local and vineyard wines, where everyone can find the right grape juice to suit their taste. Tastes first class :-)

Sina's mom is simply a wonderful person. She's always there to offer advice and support, always with a smile on her face. The price-performance ratio is more than just good, and the best part is, the wines are delicious, too. My insider tip: Sina produces her own grape juice, not just for kids.
