Weingut Dr. Leimbrock: A Gem in the Mosel Wine Region

Weingut Dr. Leimbrock is nestled in the renowned Mosel wine region of Germany, known for its steep slopes and unique ‘Devonian’ soil enriched with weathered blue slate. This exceptional terroir provides the perfect conditions for cultivating Riesling grapes, which thrive in this fertile environment. The estate has garnered national and international acclaim, earning numerous awards for its high-quality wines.

Since 1893, Weingut Dr. Leimbrock has been primarily led by women in the family.

A Legacy of Female Leadership and Passion

The winery's rich history began when Emilie took over the estate from her father, Friedrich Herrmann, in 1893. The Leimbrock family continued the tradition of winemaking with dedication, as Emilie's descendants, Friedhelm and Götz, married into local wine families. Today, Ulrike Leimbrock, the youngest daughter of Friedhelm, manages the estate alongside her father and sales executive Andrea Oeffling. Since becoming the sole owner in 2013, Ulrike has expanded production while maintaining the family’s commitment to quality.

Vineyards and Winemaking Practices

The vineyards of Weingut Dr. Leimbrock span over nine hectares in the picturesque Middle Mosel, including Mülheim, Brauneberg, Bernkastel, and Graach. Riesling is the primary grape variety, complemented by Weißer Burgunder, Pinot Blanc, and Kerner. Each autumn, the grapes are meticulously handpicked and gently pressed. The estate produces a range of wines, including vibrant whites, sparkling varieties, and exquisite dessert wines. To enhance the flavors, some wines are aged in wooden barrels, while Rieslings are refined in stainless steel tanks before bottling in a dedicated room.

Wine tasting at the Dr. Leimbrock winery - an experience full of enjoyment and expertise My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of experiencing a wine tasting at the Dr. Leimbrock winery in Mühlheim on the Mosel, and all we can say is: it was an unforgettable experience! The tasting consisted of eight different Riesling wines, and every single drop told its own story. The variety of aromas and flavors was impressive, and each wine expressed the special features of the Mosel region in a wonderfully authentic way. We would particularly like to emphasize the warm and expert support provided by Ms. Leimbrock, who led the wine tasting. With her friendly manner and enormous expertise, she managed to make the tasting not only informative, but also extremely entertaining. She took time for every question and explained the differences between the individual Rieslings. She also told us a lot about the philosophy and tradition of her winery. The atmosphere in the winery was also very inviting. You could feel that the work here is done with love and passion. Ms. Leimbrock explained to us the special features of the soil and climate around Mühlheim that make her wines so unique. Thanks to her clear explanations, we were able to perceive and appreciate the wines much more consciously. In summary, the wine tasting at the Dr. Leimbrock winery was an all-round successful experience that we can only warmly recommend to wine lovers. We not only tasted first-class Rieslings, but also learned a lot about wine and the Moselle region. A big thank you to Ms. Leimbrock - we will definitely be back!

In short: we were there this morning and were lucky because it normally opens at lunchtime. We were given very good advice, the wines have an excellent taste and the price/performance ratio is also right. I can highly recommend it. Fun Fact: We wanted a red wine and were very kindly informed that there was only white wine. We'll definitely come back next time!

We went to the wine premiere weekend at the Dr. winery. Leimbrock and were able to take part in a very nice culinary wine tasting with selected dishes in a great dining room with a view of the Moselle. The following day, in an outstanding wine tasting with extensive backgrounds in the wine cellar, we were introduced to and tasted more fantastic wines at a very fair price. We enjoyed buying a few boxes here and are looking forward to enjoying them at home 😌
