Bel Colle nasce nel 1978 dalla volontà delle famiglie Pontiglione e Priola, che all’epoca scelsero di investire in una zona periferica, quella di Verduno, ma ricca di potenzialità.
Bel Colle was born in 1978 from the will of the Pontiglione and Priola families, who at the time chose to invest in a peripheral area, that of Verduno, but rich in potential.
It was a happy and far-sighted choice, which, thanks to the efforts of an enlightened winemaker, Paolo Torchio, led Bel Colle to become one of the most important wineries in Verduno, the first Italian producer of Verduno Pelaverga and one of the symbols of reference for the rebirth of this area.
In the 90s, the decision was made to invest in the native vines of the Langhe, the Nebbiolo for Barolo and Barbaresco, the Barbera and the Dolcetto. But Bel Colle was also far-sighted in whites, giving ample space to Arneis, the main vine of Roero, the Favorita and the Nascetta, a rare indigenous variety of Novello.
Under the guidance of Paolo Torchio, the winery's style stood out for its ability to produce clean, elegant wines, endowed with an austere femininity and a finesse that made them immediately recognizable.
Since 2015, Bel Colle has been owned by the Bosio family, who has relaunched the purchase and arrangement of the vineyards, concentrating production on the highest quality expressions of the territory: Barolo, Barbaresco, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba and Barbare d'Asti. Relaunching, at the same time, the quality work focused on native white wines, among which Alta Langa stands out, a Metodo Classico icon of Piedmont.
Today the Bel Colle winery is directed by Luca Bosio and Mario Albrito. Luca represents the new generation of the Bosio family, the courage to take new paths and the desire to expand the vineyards in the most suitable areas, experimenting with the creation of new labels. Mario is instead the historical memory of the winery. Born in 1963, he is a veteran of the Langhe wine, with over 40 years of harvests behind him. A student of Paolo Torchio and a follower of his “native” oenology, he has been at Bel Colle since the early 2000s, a true expert on the terroirs of Verduno and the surrounding hills.
Their task is to capitalize on over 40 years of winemaking excellence through a broad-based sustainable viticulture and an oenology that is attentive to respecting differences. An awareness that is combined with a careful parceling out of the vineyards, from which to obtain single vineyards and labels that are increasingly representative of that inseparable bond that ties the Langhe to its wines.
