We are a group of friends, originally from Vila Alva, who came together to create XXVI Talhas. We grew up watching our relatives produce wine in talha (amar) containers, and because of this, we have a great passion for this tradition. This project, a long-held dream, is now born with the goal of honoring and promoting the talha wine produced in Vila Alva.
As our village is one of the places in the Alentejo where the tradition of producing talha wine, introduced by the Romans, has survived to this day, we feel a responsibility to continue it. Unfortunately, in recent years, this practice has been drastically declining, and it is this trend that we intend to help reverse.
It is with this goal in mind that we have reopened Mestre Daniel's former winery, with 26 talhas, where we produce talha wine using traditional methods.
The combination of the number of talhas in our winery (26) and the Roman origins of this type of winemaking led us to name our project "XXVI Talhas." In addition to wine production, we seek to promote this ancient practice by organizing initiatives in our own winery and participating in events.
