Quinta do Paral: A Gem in Alentejo

Quinta do Paral is nestled in the tranquil Alentejo region, specifically in the Vidigueira sub-region. Established with a passion for sharing this unique landscape, the winery invites guests from around the globe to enjoy the peaceful ambiance that defines the area. In 2017, Dieter Morszeck and his family fell in love with this estate, which beautifully marries exceptional terroir with a historic building, now being transformed into a welcoming wine tourism destination.

Quinta do Paral Winery: A Blend of History and Luxury

The winery's rich history is evident throughout the estate, particularly in the main house, which once belonged to the Count of Palma. This historic building is currently undergoing renovations to feature 21 luxurious bedrooms, a sky bar, and a restaurant. The Morszeck family, known for their success in the luxury sector with the German brand Rimowa, aims to create an experience that meets the highest standards of hospitality.

Old Vines and Unique Varietals

Spanning 120 hectares, Quinta do Paral boasts 52 hectares of vineyards, including 12 hectares of old vines over 60 years old. The DO Vidigueira has officially registered 23 hectares of vineyards with vines older than 50 years, and Quinta do Paral holds more than half of that area. The estate cultivates traditional grape varieties, including white grapes like Arinto, Perrum, and Antão Vaz, as well as red grapes such as Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Grossa, contributing to the region's rich viticultural heritage.

We had an amazing stay at Quinta do Paral! It was a birthday surprise for my partner, and the hotel made it so special with a thoughtful card, a delicious cake, and wine waiting in our room when we arrived. They even gave us a glass of Port to finish off our dinner, which was such a lovely touch. We got there earlier than planned because some of the wineries we’d planned to visit were closed, but it wasn’t a problem at all. The staff were so welcoming. They took care of our car, then drove us down to the hotel on a buggy. We were greeted with wine and warm hand towels in the lounge—such a great start to our stay. Our room was gorgeous, overlooking the vineyards. It was modern, beautifully decorated, and smelled incredible. Honestly, I’ve never come across hotel toiletries that smelled that good before! We did the Wine Lovers Tasting, which was such a treat. It started with a quick tour of the winery, followed by a premium tasting with some delicious nibbles from the restaurant. It was €90 per person, which I didn’t know when I booked, so it was a bit on the pricey side—but worth it for the quality of wines, food and the service. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was good. Portions were slightly on the small size, but it wasn’t overpriced, the food was tasty, and even though there were only four other diners, the atmosphere was lovely. Breakfast the next morning was just as good, with a big selection of homemade jams, fresh pastries, and a hot dish to choose from. Overall, this was one of the best hotel stays we’ve ever had. You can park up and not leave the ground for a few days, as it's so beautiful. The attention to detail, stunning grounds, and amazing rooms made it unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back!

A Hidden Gem: Quinta do Paral During a recent trip to Portugal, I had the privilege of spending a night at Quinta do Paral, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the serene Alentejo region, this boutique property is nothing short of spectacular—a true sanctuary for those seeking tranquility and refined luxury. Our evening began at the on-site restaurant, where we were treated to an exquisite culinary journey. Every dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the best of local ingredients prepared with precision and creativity. As a wine enthusiast from Veneto, I was thoroughly impressed by their wines—each one a testament to the estate’s dedication to excellence. The olive oil? Simply divine. The service provided by the restaurant staff was flawless, rivaling that of a three-star Michelin establishment. The team struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion, ensuring we felt pampered without ever being overwhelmed. The night unfolded in the Signature Terrace Suite, and words can hardly do justice to the experience. The room was immaculate, thoughtfully designed, and exuded an understated elegance. From the fresh, inviting scent to the luxurious personal care products, every detail was crafted to perfection. The private terrace offered breathtaking views of the property, including the picturesque building where we enjoyed breakfast the next morning. It was a haven of peace and beauty. Breakfast was another highlight, featuring locally sourced, high-quality ingredients that spoke of authenticity and care. Once again, the staff impressed with their subtle yet impeccable service. They seemed to have an intuitive sense of when to step in and when to step back, creating an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. Following breakfast, I had the pleasure of touring the property, including the underground wine cellar and several other suites. Each room is unique, beautifully appointed, and reflects the same meticulous attention to detail that permeates the entire estate. The wine cellar is nothing short of a work of art, with spotless facilities that speak to the pride and passion behind their winemaking. Even the production area, from the stainless steel tanks to the bottling space, was immaculate—down to the gleaming iron staircases. I also had the chance to meet their head winemaker, an incredibly kind and knowledgeable individual, and the hotel’s director, who exudes professionalism and elegance. Their passion for what they do is evident in every interaction and detail. Quinta do Paral is a destination for those who value peace, elegance, and the finer things in life. It’s not a place for loud gatherings or nightlife—it’s a retreat for those seeking to unwind and recharge in a serene and luxurious setting. The property also features a state-of-the-art gym equipped with Technogym machines, another testament to the thoughtfulness and care that went into every aspect of the guest experience. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the heartfelt farewell, every moment at Quinta do Paral is crafted to perfection. If you’re someone who appreciates the beauty of life’s finer details, this is a must-visit destination. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in search of an unforgettable getaway—this is a place you’ll want to share with the people you care about most.
