Authenticity at Antica Cascina
The Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero wine company was set up in the 1950s when the Valmenara farmhouse in Vezze d’Alba was bought by the Olivero family. They planted vineyards in Certuti in Canale, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site now. Earlier, it was a typical farm that started viticulture exclusively in the 70s. The owners, Luigi and Daniela, grew among the vineyards and people of Roero. They aim to make high-quality native wines that reflect the quality and authenticity of their land.
World Heritage Roero vineyards
The company owns around 13.5 hectares of vineyards in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The surroundings around the vineyards are stunning. Over the years, a lot of investment has gone into the estate, and they make around 100,000 bottles annually. There is a lot of respect for the environment, and they teamed up with The Green Experience in 2016 to implement organic and sustainable viticulture. This helps protect nature and preserve the health of their vineyards. Native grape varieties Favorita, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Arneis, are used to make their red, white, rose, and sparkling wines.
Modern functional winery
The cellar was created in the 70s and has been renovated with temperature-controlled fermentation tanks and wooden barrels for maturation. Handpicked grapes are brought to the cellar and pressed. Fermentation takes place, and there is a special cell for sparkling wines. A modern storage room and bottling line are also present. The various wines are aged until they reach the desired taste and aroma.
