A Sustainable Winery in Piedmont's UNESCO Heritage Region
Authenticity at Antica Cascina
Founded in the 1950s, Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero is a family-owned winery located in the picturesque Valmenara farmhouse in Vezze d’Alba. The Olivero family, passionate about viticulture, began planting vineyards in the Certuti area of Canale, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Initially a traditional farm, the estate transitioned to viticulture in the 1970s. Owners Luigi and Daniela, who grew up among the vineyards, are dedicated to producing high-quality native wines that truly reflect the essence of their land.
World Heritage Roero Vineyards
Spanning approximately 13.5 hectares, the vineyards are nestled within the stunning UNESCO World Heritage landscape. With a commitment to sustainability, Antica Cascina joined The Green Experience in 2016, adopting organic viticulture practices that protect the environment and ensure the health of their vineyards. The winery produces around 100,000 bottles annually, showcasing native grape varieties such as Favorita, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Arneis in their red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines.
Modern Functional Winery
The winery's cellar, established in the 1970s, has been modernized with temperature-controlled fermentation tanks and wooden barrels for aging. Handpicked grapes are carefully pressed, and fermentation occurs in dedicated spaces, including a special area for sparkling wines. The facility also features a contemporary storage room and bottling line, ensuring that each wine matures to perfection, achieving the desired taste and aroma.
