A Family Farm that Turned into a Renowned Winery

The story of Azienda Agricola Montevetrano began in the mid-1980s when a group of friends started experimenting with winemaking as a hobby. In 1983, Silvia Imparato, with the guidance of her longtime friend and esteemed Italian oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, established the winery. This family farm, originally passed down from her grandparents to her father, became a thriving vineyard under Silvia's stewardship.

The Vintage Wine that Defined Montevetrano’s Success

Situated in the picturesque Monti Picentini Regional Park in Campania, the 26-hectare estate features five distinct vineyards. Here, local grape varieties such as Aglianico, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot flourish alongside oaks, chestnuts, hazelnuts, citrus groves, and olive trees. Within just six years of its founding, Montevetrano produced its first wine, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Aglianico. This inaugural vintage, known for its strength and intensity, set the stage for the winery's ongoing success, with an annual production of around 30,000 bottles of Montevetrano wines.

The Unique Terroir of Montevetrano

The vineyards of Montevetrano, located just a few kilometers from Salerno, benefit from a unique terroir. Surrounded by the protective Picentini Mountains and influenced by the nearby sea, the estate enjoys a mild climate and soil rich in medium texture with bone fragments. The wines produced here are celebrated for their complexity, showcasing a diverse array of aromas and colors that highlight their exceptional quality.

I have been here several times since my first visit in 2006. The attached Agri and Lismore are the best.

I received excellent information, particularly on the wine produced by this company, which is why I am keen to purchase a few bottles. Unfortunately today I found the gates closed, but I will try again in the next few days also to go and see the ruins of the castle located at the top of Mount Vetrano..
