Frank Potts: The Pioneer of Australian Winemaking

In the 18th century, Frank Potts, a British sailor, arrived in South Australia and was captivated by the fertile floodplains along the Bremer River. In 1836, he decided to settle in this promising land, leaving behind his maritime life to pursue winemaking. By 1850, Frank and his family had cleared the land of red gum trees and planted their first Shiraz and Verdelho vines. The Potts family dedicated themselves to their wine business, and today, Bleasdale Vineyards is recognized as a leading producer of fine wines.

The Essence of Bleasdale Vineyards

At Bleasdale Vineyards, harmony, texture, and vibrancy define their winemaking philosophy. Whether it's a $15 bottle or a premium $100 wine, each offering, from Sparkling Shiraz to the Frank Potts Cabernet, reflects the rich history and family legacy behind it. Under the guidance of Paul Hotker, the Senior Winemaker, each vintage is crafted to showcase the unique characteristics of Langhorne Creek, Australia's oldest wine region, known for its distinct micro-climates and soil types.

A Winery of Distinction

Bleasdale Vineyards consistently garners high praise from international wine critics. In 2017, Paul Hotker was named Winemaker of the Year, and in 2018, the winery received the prestigious Max Schubert AM Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine. These accolades highlight the dedication and passion that go into every bottle, affirming that hard work truly yields remarkable results.

A wonderful wine experience with very friendly staff taking the time to go through each of the different wines and the story about how they were made and their names. I appreciated the time between each wine rather than quickly going through the wine list. Be sure to check out the history of their wi e making by heading through their display at the back. Fantastic tasting wines, I can see why they won Winery of the Year for Australia.

I recently visited Bleasdale Winery for a tasting, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! Every single wine I tried was lovely, showcasing the skill and passion that goes into their winemaking. Dean provided wonderful service. He was not only friendly and down-to-earth but also incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Dean even went above and beyond by sharing advice on local ferry services, which was much appreciated. If you’re looking for a welcoming atmosphere, exceptional wines, and top-notch service, I highly recommend a visit to Bleasdale Winery.
