The first qualified winemaker in Clare valley
Industy pioneer, Jim Barry and his wife Nancy founded Jim Barry Wines in 1959 that is located in South Australia’s Clare Valley.
Jim Barry drive and community spirit helped to mold South Australia’s Clare Valley as a benchmark producer of world-class Riesling and cemented its place as one of Australia’s premier wine regions
Jim was the first qualified winemaker in the Clare Valley, graduating with a Degree in Oenology in 1947. He had worked for 22 years as winemaker at the Clarevale Co-operative, making him a pioneer of Australian table wine. He then established Taylors Wines in 1969. Jim Barry Winery was strongly driven by Jim’s wife Nancy and their sons Peter, Mark & John, who collectively made the company rise. In 1985, Peter Barry became the managing director. Today the third generation of Jim Barry, Peter’s children Tom, Sam, and Olivia work at the winery as a winemaker, commercial manager, and brand ambassador respectively.
