A Legacy of Tradition and Innovation in Puglia's Wine Country
At Calitro Winery, history and passion intertwine, creating a rich tapestry of winemaking that spans four generations. This legacy is beautifully captured in every bottle of Negroamaro and Primitivo, reflecting the essence of Puglia's vibrant culture and landscape.
The story begins with grandfather Ciccillo, who cultivated a 15-hectare vineyard and produced bulk wine. After dedicating his life to his family and land, he passed the torch to his grandson, Francesco. In 2011, Francesco established Vigneti Calitro, focusing on bottling and selling wines that honor tradition while embracing innovation and meticulous design.
The name Calitro symbolizes the unity of a close-knit family, with each letter representing a unique character. The winery's logo features three elements of Apulian heritage: the festive lights of local celebrations, hand-embroidered doilies, and the intricate rose windows of Salento's baroque churches.
Calitro Winery is committed to showcasing native grape varieties, including Negroamaro, Primitivo, Susumaniello, and Verdeca. The winery produces a diverse range of nine wines: six red, one rosé, one white, and one Charmat sparkling wine, each crafted to highlight the unique terroir of Puglia.
