A Winery in a Historical Land

Cantina Giacomo Simone is nestled in the picturesque Sannio district of Castelvenere, surrounded by the stunning Taburno and Matese mountains. This region, rich in history, has been a hub for viticulture since the days of the Samnites, with commercial wine production dating back to the 17th century. The first “grottole,” unique underground cellars carved into the local volcanic tufo, emerged along the village's defensive moat. These cellars feature an "oculus" that allows light and air to flow in, creating an ideal environment for the fermentation of pressed grapes.

Vinification by Gravity

At Cantina Giacomo Simone, we utilize a gravity-based vinification process that enhances the quality of our wines. Our cellar, built into the volcanic tufo and designed around a central courtyard, benefits from natural ventilation and the thermal stability of the rock. This innovative underground design harmonizes with the surrounding landscape, with the only visible architectural feature being a large glazed opening in the tufo wall that serves as the entrance, offering breathtaking views of the valley.

We are committed to sustainability at Cantina Giacomo Simone. Our winery features photovoltaic panels integrated into artistic "tree sculptures" and a rainwater collection system, significantly reducing our water and energy consumption. Additionally, we host cultural and artistic events in our spacious tasting room and on our rooftop garden, which overlooks the Dormiente del Sannio and the historic center of Castelvenere.
