Rich Winemaking Heritage

Founded in 1983, Cargo Road Winery is one of the oldest vineyards in the Orange region of New South Wales. Our vineyard is home to a diverse selection of grapes, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, Zinfandel, Lagrein, Nebbiolo, Shiraz, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling. Each variety is carefully cultivated to reflect the unique terroir of our land.

Prime Location and Sustainable Practices

Located on the northern slopes of Mount Canobolas at an elevation of 860 meters, Cargo Road Winery spans 16 hectares of established vines. Winemaker James Sweetapple has dedicated years to enhancing the vineyard through sustainable practices. This includes effective weed control, meticulous pruning, and canopy management. Our commitment to holistic management has allowed us to increase the number of grape varieties and expand our vineyard to over 22,000 vines, ensuring a rich and varied wine experience for our visitors.

Follow on Facebook "My trip to Australia" Very nice place, just a few kilometers from Orange. The structure has a cafe/restaurant on the ground floor, a dining room and a terrace on the first floor. The view from the terrace, where you can also eat, is wonderful and overlooks the entire hill with the vineyards. We also tasted great wine and tried the ravioli. There is also the possibility of staying overnight.

Beautiful winery with camping. The owner James has great communication and is very accommodating, we had a wonderful overnight stop here, arriving late and still being offered purchase of wine, and then an amazing wine tasting (and great coffee) the following morning. Highly recommended!!

Jamie and the team have a great range of superb organic wines and offer amazing camping in their vineyards. They made us feel very welcome and it feels like you have the place to yourself.

We stayed for 3 nights with our two dogs in a 23ft caravan. Cargo Winery is easy to find outside Orange. James and Katie were great hosts. Wine tasting is available for $20 per person. They have a large variety of wines to sample. Even if you are not staying it is worth a visit. There are various camping sites spread around the grounds. Most are on the same level at the office/tasting rooms. The site we had was called Wedding. It is in the lowers section, access is via a dirt track. If it rains it does become a bit slippery, as we found out. Thanks to James for assistance in getting us out. Dogs are welcome both at your campsite and the tasting rooms where there is a lovely balcony to taste the wines and enjoy the views. Fires are allowed in raised fire pits, you can hire one if you don’t have one. This is a great place to stay in the middle of wine country. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay here.

Amazing winery with lovely staff for the whole experience! We were looked after by James who clearly works so hard and is so passionate about his winery and the environment! We camped at the top of the property with stunning views, power and a toilet shower provided! Close driving to multiple wineries, you're right in the middle of them all! Wine tasting there was delicious too with some Italian influence to a couple of totally new ones to us! All very good wines!! Thanks again for an lovely weekend away!

I am somewhat reluctant to write this review because part of me wants to keep Cargo Road winery to myself. Friends came here last year and raved about it and I can see why. Where else can you camp under the stars in a vineyard with sheep to keep you company. A perfect spot to sit and do nothing or at the most, wander up for wine tasting in the afternoon overlooking the valley. Definitely one of our best Easter weekend getaways. Beyond delighted!
