Mount Pleasant Wines is one of the Hunter Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries, founded in 1921 by Maurice O’Shea, widely regarded as the father of modern Australian winemaking. O’Shea’s pioneering approach to table wines, his meticulous blending techniques, and use of French oak set new standards for quality at a time when fortified wines dominated the market.
Today, Mount Pleasant continues to craft elegant, expressive wines from its four significant vineyard sites, including Lovedale, Rosehill, Old Hill, and Old Paddock—home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1880. Known for producing benchmark Hunter Valley styles such as Semillon and Shiraz, the estate has earned countless awards and remains celebrated for wines of longevity, balance, and a true sense of place. Nestled in Pokolbin beneath the Brokenback Range, Mount
Pleasant offers visitors a rich heritage experience through its beautifully renovated cellar door and curated tastings that showcase over a century of winemaking excellence.

It's started with the Wine Hunter and the desire to explore Maurice O'Shea and Mount Pleasant. We absolutely love it here. It’s not just the history, the location, the experiences, the wine, or the service and hospitality. It’s the combination of all of it that makes Mount Pleasant so special. We’ve been members since June 2025, when we first met Mel and G, and from that very first visit we knew this place was different. Our first experience in June was the Icons tasting hands down the best pairing, tasting, and calibre of wines I’ve ever experienced. We walked away with plenty of new wines for the cellar, but more importantly, it set an incredibly high benchmark. We’d been wanting to return for a while, but my wife is currently pregnant and had to miss out on the Heritage tasting itself. This time we did the Heritage experience, and of course, we still went home with more wines to add to the cellar. I’ll admit, I was a little concerned it might feel different or that the people might have changed, but not at all. Same people, even better experience. They went out of their way to make sure my wife was comfortable, with water and snacks she was able to enjoy, which truly made all the difference. Mel and G — you genuinely make Mount Pleasant what it is for us. Thank you for always looking after us so well. We’re already looking forward to our next visit, with your newest member.

Mount Pleasant is an absolutely stunning winery and should be right at the top of your list when visiting the Hunter Valley! My husband and I booked a morning wine tasting and were warmly welcomed by the lovely Maddie, who was so friendly and bubbly from the start! 😊 We were captivated by the rich history of the winery and the way Maddie brought the stories of the vineyards and Mount Pleasant’s heritage to life. Her incredible knowledge and beautiful descriptions of the wines and winemaking process made the experience unforgettable. What surprised me most was that, as someone who usually doesn’t enjoy red wine, I actually loved every single red we tasted that day. I felt completely converted! If we hadn’t had another tasting booked right after, I would have happily stayed longer to enjoy the wines and take a few bottles home. We’ll absolutely be back! This winery is breathtaking, and I truly fell in love with it. A huge thank you to Maddie for her 5-star service; she was phenomenal and deserves the highest praise. P.S. The olives served with the tasting were absolutely delicious too! 🤤
