Castello di Spessa – A Wine Lover's Retreat

Castello di Spessa is a historic winery nestled in the picturesque countryside of Collio Goriziano, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. This enchanting estate features medieval wine cellars and sprawling vineyards that thrive on the region's fertile terroirs. A fascinating military bunker, discovered in the late 1980s, lies 18 meters underground, where the Pali family ages and refines their exquisite wines. This destination is perfect for those who appreciate both history and fine wine.

Surrounded by lush pines, olive groves, and beautifully landscaped gardens, the vineyard benefits from a unique pedoclimate ideal for grape cultivation. The Pali family cultivates a diverse array of grapes, including Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay. Additionally, they grow high-quality Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Nero, Collio Bianco, and Collio Rosso on select plots.

A Winery Steeped in History

Founded in the 13th century, Castello di Spessa was once home to prominent Friulian aristocrats, including the Dorinbergo and Rassauer families. The Della Torre Valsàssina family, descendants of Charlemagne, ruled the castle for over three centuries. Over the years, the manor attracted librettists, writers, and adventurers. In 1987, the Pali family acquired the castle and its surrounding lands, marking the beginning of their winemaking legacy in one of Italy's most celebrated wine regions.

Wine Resort, Sports, and Wellness

The estate features 15 elegantly furnished apartments, designed in the Venetian style with influences from the 18th and 19th centuries. Within the resort, guests can enjoy the Castello di Spessa Winery, the Casanova Wine Shop, an 18-hole golf course, the Vinum SPA, and the gourmet restaurant La Tavernetta al Castello, along with the charming café Hosteria del Castello. Visitors can savor quality time at these venues while enjoying wine tastings and the serene surroundings.

3 hours of wellness with a fairytale view... We had this experience at the Spa and pampered ourselves for three hours! The pools are beautiful, indoor and outdoor with hot water and working whirlpools... A magnificent landscape to enjoy in the relaxation area, everything is very clean, you can appreciate the jugs of tea and juice as well as nuts and mulled wine. It is located outside. The price is a bit high (50 euros) but the location is worth it.

Lovely place and everything well taken care of, the only flaw that left me a bit like that was at the bar, I asked for a bottle to take away, and I was charged as if I were drinking it at the table, and not with the cellar list price. Honestly I would review a bit better to avoid these inconveniences For the rest everything is fine
