About Cieck Winery

Founded in 1985, Cieck Winery is nestled in Aglié, just a short distance from San Giorgio in the picturesque Piedmont region of Italy. The estate spans 13 hectares of vineyards in San Giorgio Canavese, strategically located between Turin and Ivrea. The winery primarily cultivates Erbaluce, a historic white grape variety native to the Canavese area, alongside other local varietals such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Neretto, and Freisa. Notably, Cieck employs the traditional "pergola" grape training system, which creates expansive canopies and requires skilled winemakers to reach high for grape harvesting.

Terroir of Cieck Winery

The unique flavor profile of Cieck wines is shaped by the region's climate, soil, and the winemakers' traditional practices. The Moraine Amphitheatre of Ivrea, formed by glacial activity during the Pleistocene, is the heart of the Erbaluce di Caluso appellation. This area boasts a diverse mineral composition due to its rich silicate and carbonate metamorphic rocks, contributing to the wines' distinctive savory character and complexity.

The Erbaluce Grape

Erbaluce is a versatile grape variety that produces three distinct wine styles: still white wine, traditional method sparkling wine, and passito. It maintains a high level of acidity while developing moderate sugar levels, making it ideal for crafting exceptional sparkling wines with aging potential. With its rich extracts and moderate alcohol content, Erbaluce offers a unique aromatic profile, characterized by subtle scents and a wealth of aromatic precursors.

Easy to reach, large parking lot, beautiful spaces organized to offer a 360° immersive experience in the Erbaluce area. Very kind and friendly, Lia an exquisite hostess and cellar. Always an eye for detail with great discretion. The wines are truly excellent, different vinifications and refinements with an Erbaluce theme, plus some gems on native Canavese vines such as Neretto di San Giorgio.

The Cieck winery, located in San Giorgio Canavese, is renowned for the production of excellent Erbaluce wines. In 2006, its sparkling wine received the prestigious recognition as the best sparkling wine in Italy, also establishing itself at a national, European and global level. Among its products, the excellent Erbaluce passito stands out, nicknamed by many "elixir of love" for its unique and refined taste. The winery offers the possibility of booking guided tours and tastings, an experience that I highly recommend. The wine tastings can be paired with typical local products from the Canavese area, such as torcetti from Agliè, cheeses from the Villa producer and salam patata. These combinations further enhance the flavors and offer an authentic taste of the region's food and wine tradition. Highly recommended for lovers of good wine and local culinary excellence. Reservation is required for a guided tasting!

Misobolo Erbaluce 2018 developed freshness, is easy to combine, cheeky with salad, artichokes, chili peppers, cheese shavings, oil and vinegar ... not even a wrinkle 😉

A farm absolutely worth seeing and experiencing. Thanks to the welcome of the owner Remo and the very kind next sommelier (she will excuse us but we are not sure what Marta is called ☺️) who explained to us in detail the history, the methods and the life that Mr. Remo spent among the rows. Family-run company where passion is visible and palpable in the words and in the artisan and manual method of winemaking. At the end of the visit we tasted 6 wines from their cellar with grissini and typical sweets. Excellent aromas and flavors. Discover different wines made from Erbaluce grapes! Highly recommended company!

Visit to the winery with a truly unmissable tasting. Brief review: warm and familiar welcome, complete tour from the vineyard to the cellar, very rich tasting. The focus is on classic method sparkling wines, still white wines and sweet wines. Absolutely a must! In detail: if you usually visit wineries in the Langa, here you will be surprised by the familiarity, warmth, attention and importance they show to visitors. Lia and Marta welcomed us and explained the peculiarities of the area and of Erbaluce: their excellent vine. They then accompanied us to visit the rows of vines with the various methods of vine cultivation (I know it's strange, but it's called breeding). We followed the path that the grapes take during the harvest, from pressing to fermentation tanks, to refinement in barriques or bottles for the classic method. We stopped in the drying room where the grapes are hung one by one to make their liqueur passito wines, truly incredible! The tasting was really beyond satisfying. 6 wines according to the list that you can customize, plus some extra pampering. The still whites and sparkling wines are all Erbaluce based, with a few exceptions. The sparkling wines spend 36 to 48 months on the lees, the Calliope also spends part of the barrel. They are the crown jewel of the cellar. The vinified Erbaluce still shows all its propensity for refinement and aging. The icing on the cake are the two Passito wines aged 5 and 10 years in barrique. But what are we talking about?! Absolutely exaggerated! Okay, it's clear that I recommend the visit. You have to pay when booking, but for the quality standard they want to maintain, it's absolutely correct. Many thanks to Lia and Marta for this comprehensive immersion in Erbaluce and Cieck, which undoubtedly exceeded all expectations.
