Espenhof – a Winery Located in the Land of 1000 Hills

Espenhof Winery situated in the Land of 1000 Hills, makes its mark in the village of Flonheim. The vineyards are located throughout one of the finest German wine regions of Rheinhessen. Espenhof’s oldest grapes are grown in the best plots of Binger Berg – Kisselberg, Muhlenpfad, and Ringelberg.
Family Roots Dating Back to the 1600s

The winemaking roots of Espenhof, date back to the 1600s, when one of their forefathers estblished winemaking in the Taunus region. Today, the eighth generation of the Espenhof Winery runs the estate, under the ownership of Wilfried and Heike Espenschied. There is also a beautiful hotel and restaurant located on the winery property – one of the award-winning restaurants of Germany.

Sustainable Vineyards and Low Intervention Winemaking

In the vineyards of Espenhof, sustainable agriculture is evidence and the family focuses on maintaining a low carbon footprint in their winemaking pracrices. A combination of Burgundian and native grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc are grown.
In the cellar, much like the vineyards, young winemaker Nico Espenschied applies his philosophy of low intervention with no fining and no additions. Espenhof Winery’s natural wines hold an exclusive label with Nico Espenschied on the front.
The cellar at Espenhof WInery is called the “”heart and soul”” the winery and boasts modern technology for several winemaking practices. Red wines are aged in French barriques, and whites are aged and refined in large wooden barrels.

Winery Producing Sparkling Wines and Offering Guest Accomodations

Among the leading wines of the Espenhof Winery is their sparkling wine range, produced according to the traditional method, as well as their rosés and dessert wines.

Wilfried and Heike have renovated the former Feudner House of Uffhofen and converted it into a holiday home for guests. The hotel has seven well-furnished double rooms with two suite sets. Several rooms, overlook the stunning landscapes, opposite to the winery. The owners of Espenhof have recently extended the guests’ accommodation with eight modern rooms with open space design.
