Etienne Simonis, a Great Alsatian Winery

The Etienne Simonis winery is located in the heart of the Alsace wine region. Today, the vineyard covers 7 hectares, mostly in Ammerschwihr. The estate vineyards also cover some parts in the villages of Kaysersberg, Bennwihr, and Sigolsheim. The Simonis Family has been cultivating vines in Ammerschwihr since the 17th century. René replanted the vineyard in 1969 on the land inherited from his father. In 1975, he built the winery in Moulins, which is the current location of the estate.

Winemaking at Etienne Simonis

In 1996, after the retirement of René, Etienne took over the responsibility of the winery. He made the strategic decision to increase his vineyard area while reducing the yield and to achieve excellence. He uses the family’s traditional techniques along with the latest technology to produce high-quality wine. He also uses his experience that he gained during his studies in Beaune to run the winery successfully. Now the family owns vines on Kaefferkopf and Marckrain Grand Cru sections. They store wine in oak tuns, stainless steel tanks, and 228 litre oak casks. Most of the plots of the Etienne Simonis vineyard earned the Agriculture Biologique organic farming label. The team also uses biodynamic cultivation methods to produce amazing wine.
