A Resilient Family Estate with a Rich Heritage
Natural Winemaking Practices
Domaine Mann is committed to sustainable viticulture, utilizing natural products to nurture their vines. Each grape is handpicked to prevent damage and retain the full spectrum of aromas. The winery aims to craft exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of each vineyard plot. By avoiding synthetic oenological products, they focus on achieving finesse, elegance, and purity in their wines. Their winemaking techniques include manual harvesting in boxes, gentle pressing, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and aging on the lees for a minimum of one year, allowing each wine to develop its distinct personality.
A Legacy of Resilience
The estate's roots trace back to Pauline and Louis Freyburger, winemakers in Eguisheim, whose lives were upended by the Second World War, leaving their three children orphaned. After the war, Henri and Paulette, the eldest daughter, revived the family estate, cultivating 5 hectares of vines and producing wine under the name “MANN Henri.” In 1982, Jean-Louis took over, initially supplying grapes to a cooperative while learning modern farming techniques. The estate expanded, and in 1998, they launched their first vintages under “Jean-Louis et Fabienne MANN.” Their three sons, Jérôme, Sébastien, and François, grew up in this winemaking environment. Sébastien, the second son, developed a passion for viticulture, earning a BTS in Oenological Viticulture and gaining experience in prestigious wine regions like Champagne and Côtes Rôties before returning to the family estate, bringing fresh insights to their winemaking practices.
