Rich Winemaking Heritage

Forgotten Barrel Winery is a charming estate nestled on 3 acres near downtown Escondido, California. Winemaker John Eppler brings over 30 years of experience from Napa Valley, where he honed his craft. For the past eight years, he has focused on creating exceptional Napa-style wines, and now he proudly adds San Diego wines to the winery's offerings.

The Oldest Winery in San Diego

As the oldest winery in San Diego, dating back to the 1880s, Forgotten Barrel is located in the region's first grape-growing area. The winery underwent a complete restoration in 2016, returning it to its original charm. Today, it occupies the historic Ferrara Winery site, featuring a beautifully designed tasting room, outdoor patios, and scenic arbor areas perfect for picnics and wine enjoyment.

Romantic Ambiance and Unique Features

Forgotten Barrel Winery boasts stunning views and a rustic Barrel Room, along with original homestead buildings and barns. The tasting room is equipped with modern amenities, making it an ideal venue for weddings, corporate events, or private gatherings. The property is also home to lively Zebra Finches and a flock of hens, adding to its unique character.

Visitors can savor a diverse selection of premium hand-crafted wines made from grapes sourced from Napa, Sonoma, Central Coast, San Diego County, Paso Robles, Russian River, and Santa Barbara. The transformation of the former Ferrara Winery has turned this once-overlooked homestead into a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city.

Forgotten Barrel Winery offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle, inviting wine lovers to enjoy its vintage-inspired grounds.

My now husband and I had our wedding at the Forgotten Barrel and man do I wish I could do it all again! From the very beginning we knew we wanted a microwedding (less than 50 guests). We found Forgotten Barrel and inquired if they offered plans for smaller weddings and they sure did! The space was a great size so our small wedding (34 ppl total) didn’t feel or look awkwardly out of place! Alyssa was amazing to work with and answered all questions promptly. Chef Joan (caterer linked to Forgotten Barrel) was also great and took spectacular care of us! My ONLY regret is micro weddings have a 4 hour time frame. I wish I would have inquired about adding an additional hour as 4 felt so fast and I wish I had more time to enjoy our beautiful day. Overall, if you are looking for an all inclusive beautiful venue THIS IS IT.

Mikayla and I can not recommend Forgotten Barrel Winery enough for a wedding venue. The process leading up to our wedding was stress free due to the professionalism and diligence of Alyssa who is the venue manager. All of our questions were answered in a timely manner, and the communication between vendors was very reassuring. The day of our wedding went off without a hitch! The entire venue from the getting ready area for both the bride and groom to the reception area and everywhere else in between was beautiful which made for stunning photos all throughout the day. Our guests loved everything about the venue and gave us nothing but positive feed back. My wife and I decided to have an all vegan menu for our wedding and Chef Joann knocked the food out of the ball park! Most of guests weren't vegan but they all raved about the food. Forgotten Barrel is truly THE hidden gem in San Diego for a wedding venue. If you are looking to have an unforgettable wedding; you absolutely MUST check out Forgotten Barrel!!
