Founded in 1979 by Jerold O’Brien, Silver Mountain Vineyards revitalized a historic vineyard dating back to the late 1870s. Nestled atop a 2,100-foot ridge with breathtaking views of Monterey Bay, the winery transformed 18 acres of abandoned land into a thriving vineyard. The first vintage, a Zinfandel, was released in 1982 producing around 350 cases. Despite facing significant challenges, including the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake that destroyed the original winery and cellar, the spirit of Silver Mountain Vineyards remained unbroken.
After extensive reconstruction, a new fully sustainable production facility was completed in 1995. Jerold embraced organic farming practices in 1980 marking a new chapter in its commitment to quality and sustainable practices .
Since 1979, Silver Mountain Vineyards has been crafting wines in small batches, resulting in elegant and complex flavors. The winery offers a diverse selection of award-winning wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains, including gold medal-winning Pinot Noirs, Estate Chardonnays, Bordeaux Blends, Bold Cabernet
, Rich Syrahs, and Beautiful Rosés. Under the expertise of winemaker Tony Craig, who brings 25 vintages of experience, each wine reflects a dedication to quality, rich flavor, and complexity.
Silver Mountain Vineyards prioritizes sustainability, focusing on the well-being of employees, the environment, and the community. In 2016, it became the first winery in the Itata Valley to receive Fair Trade certification, joining a select group of wineries in Chile committed to ethical practices. This certification ensures compliance with ten principles of labor quality, including fair payment, good working conditions, and respect for the environment.

Write a reviewlol! I’m going to leave an extremely honest review. First of all. Everyone that knows about silver Mountain winery knows that you go for the wine and not the aesthetics. Some people really enjoy that lack of pretension when First being introduced to wine. Out of all the different vineyards I’ve tasted at throughout the Santa Cruz mountains. I found their wine, consistent, and excellent. If you’re sensitive person? Be prepared. And don’t take him personally. I would say the owner is kind of the soup Nazi of wine tasting. Lol if you remember the old Seinfeld character. You know when you’re flying and you have those older stewardess that have just aged out, and are extremely unhappy, but just don’t wanna quit. But instead project there years of abuse and trauma or cantankerous nature onto the public? Well, that’s kind of him. He has nothing to prove, and he can’t be fir, and he pretty much says and does what he wants to. Lol. And good for him. i’m just warning you if you need to be mollycoddled or you think this is going to be like Napa? Give that idea up before you go. take yourself a nice picnic basket full of your favorite things and just enjoy the wine. And the view.
