Dão Winery Celebrated for Local Grape Varieties and Quality Wines
Freire Lobo Winery: A Family Legacy in the Alva Valley
Freire Lobo Winery is nestled in the stunning Dão region, near the picturesque Valley of Alva, at an elevation of 580 meters. Established in 1998, this family-run estate boasts its own vineyards and has quickly gained recognition for producing exceptional wines. The winery is known for its elegant wines, characterized by intense fruity flavors and aromas that reflect the unique terroir of the Alva sub-region. In 2014, the winery expanded its vineyards by planting new vines, aiming to enhance the identity and quality of their grape production.
Beautifully Cultivated Vineyards
The estate is surrounded by lush pines, majestic cedars, and granite formations, creating a naturally beautiful environment ideal for vine cultivation. Spanning 20 hectares, the vineyards primarily feature local grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Pinheira, Alvarelhão, and Baga for red wines, while white wines are crafted from Encruzado, Bical, Verdelho, Cerceal, and Barcelo. The unique granite and sandy soils, along with rocky outcrops, provide an excellent backdrop overlooking the Serra da Estrela mountain. Wine enthusiasts are welcome to visit the modern winery, where they can taste high-quality wines and purchase bottles to take home. Freire Lobo takes pride in its commitment to local grape varietals, making it a standout in the Dão region.
