Freire Lobo Winery, a Family-run Estate in the Beautiful Valley of Alva
The Freire Lobo winery is located in the Dao region, close to the beautiful Valley of Alva at the height of 580 meters. It is present in the Oliveira do Hospital and is a family-run estate with their own vineyards. The company started recently in 1998 and is the best in the region famous for its wines. The wines are elegant and have an intense fruity taste and aroma that expresses the quality of the gifted Alva sub-region to the full. In 2014, the old vineyard was supported with the planting of new vines, and it is one of their main aims. They want to create a proper identity of their vineyards and improve the quality of grapes obtained from them.
Gorgeous Naturally Grown Vineyard
Their estate is gorgeous naturally and is surrounded by pines, cedars, granites, etc. The soil, climate and other natural factors here are perfect for the cultivation of vines. The vineyards are spread across 20 hectares of land. Mainly the vineyards are planted with local varieties like Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Pinheira, Alvarelhão e Baga for the reds and Encruzado, Bical, Verdelho, Cerceal and Barcelo for the whites, in granite and sandy soils, with enormous rocky outcrops which overlooks Serra da Estrela mountain and surrounded by pine trees. Wine enthusiasts can always visit their modern winery and taste their high-quality products and even buy from them to take back home. The winery is one of the best in the region and takes pride in using the regional, local grape varietals.
