Our Story

Quinta Madre de Água began its journey in 2007 when the owners sought to reconnect with their roots and create a sustainable winery that honors tradition and nature. Nestled in the Dão region, known for its remarkable wines, the winery benefits from a rich history and diverse landscapes. The surrounding mountains provide a unique microclimate that enhances the aroma and flavor of the wines. In 2020, the winery expanded its facilities, increasing its capacity to process 150 tons of grapes annually.

Exceptional Terroir

Our vineyards, located at an elevation of 600 meters, range from 20 to 80 years old and cover 13 hectares across various estates. We cultivate both indigenous and international grape varieties, which have earned recognition as some of the best in the Dão region. Our dedicated team, passionate about viticulture, carefully tends to the vines. We harvest exclusively by hand, managing production per hectare to ensure the highest grape quality. In the winery, we select only the finest berries, with each bottle reflecting our commitment to the art of winemaking.

Our state at the Quinta Madre de Água is excellent. With clear views from Serra da Estrela, we are welcomed with warm hospitality. The quarters are comfortable and well decorated, and the food is delicious, with authentic local lawns. A fifth offers activities in the book, as passes for wine and trilhas in nature. Wine tasting was a delight. I recommend Quinta Madre de Água for a quiet and elegant retreat.

Very nice, somewhat remote and therefore quiet hotel in the middle of the wine-growing region. Clean and friendly staff. Good breakfast. We would give the evening meal 8 out of 10 points. Good selection of wines to spend the evening comfortably by the fireplace. We booked this hotel as a base to visit various wineries, were very happy with the location and would book again. (For cat lovers there are two very friendly and curious four-legged friends, but they were locked away on the second evening because guests with a cat allergy had booked in).
