Hungary's Premier Winery with a Historic Underground Cellar
Grand Tokaj: A Winery Nestled in Nature
Surrounded by lush greenery, Grand Tokaj Winery is a gem in the renowned Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region. Officially known as Tokaj Kereskedőház, this winery underwent a significant renovation in 2013, transforming it into a modern facility that caters to the tastes of contemporary wine enthusiasts.
A Leader in Hungarian Winemaking
With a winemaking tradition spanning over 70 years, Grand Tokaj stands out as one of Hungary's leading wineries, celebrated for its Tokaj Aszu. Under the guidance of Károly Áts, the winery preserves traditional winemaking techniques while integrating advanced technologies, boasting a tank capacity of 6.6 million liters. The estate also features a wine museum established in 1920, showcasing a collection of vintage wines.
Committed to sustainability, Grand Tokaj cultivates a diverse range of grapes, including Furmint, Harslevelu, Sargamuskotaly, Kabar, Zeta, and Koverszolo. The dedicated staff hand-harvests the grapes, ensuring only the finest berries are selected for fermentation.
Notably, Grand Tokaj boasts the largest cellar in Central and Eastern Europe, providing an exceptional environment for wine aging.
Wines from the Historic Underground Cellar
Over 25 years old, the Grand Tokaj Winery's underground cellar was ingeniously created by repurposing ancient rock mines. This impressive two-story, five-kilometer-long facility is ideal for aging and refining wines. Guests can sample a variety of exquisite white and dessert wines, including those with DOP and IGP labels, as well as some of the winery's finest vintages during tastings.
