Nestled among picturesque vineyards and olive groves, Hastwell and Lightfoot Winery is located in the charming McLaren Vale region of South Australia. Spanning 43 acres, the estate dedicates 40 acres to vineyards and 3 acres to olive cultivation.
Since planting its first vines in 1988, Hastwell and Lightfoot has been dedicated to producing high-quality wines.
Founded by two couples, Mark and Wendy Hastwell, along with Martin and Jill Lightfoot, the winery began with a modest production of just 60 cases in 1990. Over the years, the families have strengthened their bond, with younger generations actively participating in vineyard management and winemaking, ensuring the continuation of their rich tradition.

It’s been a few moths since we visited BUT I recommend H&L. Wonderful service, friendly and informative. Tasty. Fabulous wines. Great platter of food. Lovely setting. The Italian wines were wonderful. Go visit, you wont be disappointed. Easy bike ride from the caravan park.

Group of 12 travelling through had platters for 2 and an assortment of wines. Oliver was a wonderful host. Accomodate our strict time schedule magnificently. Could not fault H & L. Highly recommend, pity we didn’t have more time there.

A little gem just outside McLaren Vale. We thoroughly enjoyed a light lunch grazing platter and tasting flight, sitting on the deck, served by the lovely and very knowledgeable Nicole. Great music choices were playing in the background and a small grassed area is the backdrop for some lawn games - Jenga, boules, toss the sack. Highly recommend.

Hastwell & Lightfoot is a hidden gem in McLaren Vale. Their wines are amazing, offering a variety to suit everyone’s taste. I’ve visited several times, enjoying their delicious platters that pair perfectly with the wines. The cozy, family-run cellar door provides beautiful vineyard views, making it an ideal spot to hang out and relax. I also celebrated a birthday recently held in their Oak Room, which offers a rustic and moody event space surrounded by lush lawns and a wrap-around deck with scenic views. I highly recommend a visit to experience their exceptional wines and great hospitality.

A very enjoyable platter lunch for two. Everything about our visit was great. It was a very hot day, but the inside temperature was comfortable and the view was lovely. With background music playing and lovely wines to taste we were educated about the winery, the wines and the family business. We would recommend this winery as a great place to go. We received a Red Balloon voucher as a gift to go there and it turned out to be a wonderfully enjoyable gift. The platter offered more before the photo was taken.

What an outstanding experience we had there!!!! From the first contact to a superbly conducted tasting (thanks Oliver). Excellent wines were presented with expert knowledge and a portion of humor in a relaxed atmosphere, in English and German. The charcuterie board, mostly stocked with their own products, was delicious and plentiful. We had several more wine tastings in Barrosa and Clare Valley the following week, and I would like to take the liberty of highlighting these at H&L. I have to say that most of the wines at the tasting aroused my curiosity to combine them with food and enjoy them. Only a few of them were able to do this at the other tastings. The wines here were particularly fresh and paired with elegance. I would say that this is a modern approach to wine production for Australia. All in all, a wonderful experience at H&L.
