Experience the Essence of South Australian Wines
The Family Behind Hewitson
Founded in 1998, Hewitson Winery is located in the picturesque Barossa Valley along the historic Seppeltsfield Road. This family-owned winery is home to some of the oldest vines in the world, reflecting a deep commitment to quality and sustainability. The Hewitson family believes that exceptional wines are a true reflection of their terroir and the seasons in which they are cultivated. With a focus on balance, structure, and concentration, they produce wines that showcase the unique characteristics of their vineyards. Utilizing solar energy, water recycling, and promoting biodiversity, Hewitson is dedicated to environmentally friendly practices. Owners Dean and Lou oversee all aspects of the winery, with Dean holding a master's degree in winemaking and a passion for crafting distinctive wines.
The Vineyards of Hewitson
Hewitson’s vineyards span several prestigious wine regions in South Australia, including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Adelaide Hills. The Barossa Valley remains the heart of their winemaking, featuring the historic Old Garden vineyard, which boasts Mourvèdre vines planted in 1853 by Friedrich Koch. This vineyard has witnessed the evolution of Australia’s wine industry and was recognized by Dean in 1998 for its potential beyond fortified and blended wines. The Adelaide Hills region is celebrated for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, while the Mad Hatter Shiraz, sourced from Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale, exemplifies the true character of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Each bottle from Hewitson tells a story of tradition, innovation, and the rich heritage of South Australian winemaking.
