Today, the winery is expertly managed by Maria Hick, the cellar master, and Manfred Eder-Hick, the Ruperti winemaker. The winery is committed to sustainable practices, with approximately 75% of its facilities utilizing LED lighting and a photovoltaic system to optimize energy efficiency.

Vineyards of Distinction

The winery's six hectares of vineyards are situated in renowned sites such as Buchenthal, Johannserberg, Kellerweingärten, Kirnberg, Mitterbirg, Steiger, and Stiegelstal, including the sub-region Glauberkreuz. The vineyards primarily feature white grape varieties, with Grüner Veltliner making up about 60%, alongside Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau), Riesling, Chardonnay, and Muskateller. The red variety Zweigelt accounts for 10% of the plantings. The vineyards are cultivated using ecological methods, including green manuring, minimal spray usage, and pheromone-based pest control, all aimed at enhancing biodiversity and soil health.

Crafting Quality Wines

The winery's goal is to produce wines that are fruity and representative of their terroir, showcasing the unique characteristics of each site and the local microclimate. Most wines are vinified dry, ensuring a long shelf life. After gentle pressing, the musts undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks or large wooden barrels, with temperature control tailored to each wine type. The wines are aged on fine lees for an extended period, enhancing their complexity and flavor.

A wonderful accommodation where I have been a guest for eleven years. The Hick family is extremely friendly and I always feel very comfortable. The dishes are very rich and lovingly prepared. The wine is first class. A wonderful winery right on the Danube.

We spent two nights here as a family of three and also visited the Heurigen. The rooms are very large and spacious, with a large balcony and a view of the vineyard. Everything is clean and tidy, the beds are comfortable. Mrs. Hick waited for us every morning with a delicious, very filling breakfast. The location was - at least during our stay (road closure due to rockslide near Aggstein) - very quiet. We were completely satisfied and were also able to purchase a few kilos of the delicious Wachau apricots. Attention: All payments, including for overnight stays, are only possible in cash!

We went to the Heurigen Lokal Hick to watch the sun celebration in Spitz and were very impressed by the view, the service and the quality of the wines on offer. We would be happy to come back.
