The Winery Exports 250,000 Wine Bottles Every Year
Being the driving force of the renowned wine region of Carnuntum, Weingut Walter Glatzer has its base in the east of Vienna, dotted by charming countryside. The vineyards enjoy panonic microclimate and mineral-rich soil, surrounded by trees, wood, and vegetable gardens. Some of the estate wines include delicious red, white, rose, and sparkling wines.
Winemaking History of Carnuntum Dates Back to Ancient Romans
Göttlesbrunn in Carnuntum has also been recognized as the finest wine region, dating back to 2000 years ago. Roman elites loved the taste of the wines produced by this region. In 1987, Walter Glatzer acquired the winery with 5.4 hectares of vineyards, following ancient Romans’ footsteps. Working alongside wife Doris, son Matthias, and daughter Hanna, Walter has produced many award-winning vintages, such as Blaufränkischer Berenreiser, St. Laurent von Altenburg, and Zweigelt Dornenvogel
Oragnic Vines Grown on the Historical Sites
Today, Walter Glatzer Winery owns 55 hectares of organic vineyards shaped by biodynamic and innovative techniques. The estate grows three-fourths of the land with red and the remaining with white varietals, including high-quality Chardonnay, Weissburgunder, Grüner Vetliner, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and Suavignon Blanc. To keep the organoleptic characteristics of the grains intact, Walter uses stainless steel tanks for whites and barrels and barriques for red wines.
