Weingut Walter Glatzer, a cornerstone of the esteemed Carnuntum wine region, is located just east of Vienna amidst picturesque countryside. The vineyards benefit from a unique Pannonian microclimate and mineral-rich soil, surrounded by lush trees and vegetable gardens. The estate produces a variety of wines, including exquisite reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling options.
A Rich Winemaking Heritage in Carnuntum
The history of winemaking in Göttlesbrunn, Carnuntum, stretches back over 2,000 years, with Roman elites once savoring the wines from this area. In 1987, Walter Glatzer took over the winery, which spans 5.4 hectares of vineyards, continuing the legacy of this historic region. Together with his wife Doris, son Matthias, and daughter Hanna, Walter has crafted numerous award-winning wines, including Blaufränkischer Berenreiser, St. Laurent von Altenburg, and the celebrated Zweigelt Dornenvogel.
Organic Vines Cultivated on Historic Land
Today, Weingut Walter Glatzer boasts 55 hectares of organic vineyards, nurtured through biodynamic and innovative practices. The estate dedicates three-fourths of its land to red varietals, while the remainder features high-quality whites such as Chardonnay, Weissburgunder, Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and Sauvignon Blanc. To preserve the unique characteristics of the grapes, Walter employs stainless steel tanks for white wines and barrels for red wines.
