Located in the heart of Montemarano, Il Cancelliere is a family-owned winery dedicated to producing exceptional Taurasi DOCG wines. Founded by Soccorso Romano, the estate aims to honor traditional winemaking practices while utilizing the rich resources of the land. With the expertise of Soccorso and the agronomic knowledge of his son, Enrico, the winery thrives on a legacy of craftsmanship passed down from Soccorso's father, Antonio di Grutolla. The estate's wine cellar, nestled among lush vineyards, is where the magic happens.
The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 450 to 600 meters, nestled between the Chianzano and Iampenne areas of Montemarano. Grapes are harvested by hand to maintain their natural integrity and flavor, reflecting a deep respect for nature and the environment.
Il Cancelliere avoids chemical fertilizers and additives, ensuring purity in both the vineyards and the wine cellar.
Vinification follows the time-honored traditions of peasant culture, emphasizing quality and authenticity.
The primary grape variety cultivated here is Aglianico, renowned for its role in crafting robust red wines. Only the finest grapes are selected for vinification, which occurs in the cellar using traditional wooden barrels. This aging process allows the wines to develop a rich structure and intense fruity aromas, showcasing the unique qualities of the terroir and the winery's dedication to traditional winemaking methods.

If I could I would leave six stars, to say that I experienced a magnificent day with a welcome, hospitality and warmth out of the ordinary is an understatement, something touching...Claudio, Enrico, Rita, Mrs. Pasqualina and last but not by order of importance the Chancellor are extremely positive people, with great energy, value for the family and love for the territory. Trying to describe the immense availability shown to me is not possible because it is something that truly exceeds all expectations. Tasting first from the tanks and then from the bottles, having walked through the vineyards listening to Claudio, a very strong connoisseur of the Irpinia area, left me with something that I will not easily forget. Comparison is always of primary importance, but when it becomes an exchange of ideas, sitting at the same table with the entire product line and all those who produce it, from the first to the last drop that turns from sweat into wine it is an emotion unique. The least I can say is: come and visit this family who makes their love for this land the principle of production of real, lively and long-lasting wines!

One of the largest Taurasis available today. A small family-run winery where you can breathe an air of truth and sincerity that is found in their wines. At the moment they only work with Aglianico grapes from which they obtain a range of 3 different wines: Vedemmia, the simplest, to be consumed young; Gioviano, medium aged but already structured and complex; Black Nor, the Taurasi, simply amazing.
