Authentic Wines from Sicily's Scenic Coastline
Our Story
Il Mortellito began as a modest 2-hectare plot in the Val di Noto, where our grandfather cultivated the land in the early 20th century. Today, we have expanded to a flourishing 23-hectare vineyard, nestled in the picturesque districts of Mortellito, Bufalemi, and Maccari. Located near the sea and surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, including olive and almond trees, our winery embraces a harmonious relationship with nature. Since 2016, we have been dedicated to producing authentic wines using organic farming methods, ensuring that our practices respect the land.
The Terroir of Il Mortellito
Our vineyards are just a few kilometers from the stunning Vendicari Nature Reserve, Marzamemi, and the charming fishing village of Portopalo. This prime location, situated at 40 meters above sea level and only 1.5 km from the coast, provides an ideal environment for grape cultivation.
We focus on bush wine cultivation of the region's flagship varieties: Nero D’Avola, Moscato di Noto, Frappato, and Grillo. Our grapes thrive in a unique terroir, nurtured without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. We hand-harvest our grapes to maintain their quality, ensuring that each bottle reflects the true character of our land.
