Kinross – An Excellent Tasting Room with History in Gibbston Valley Since 1860
The Kinross Winery is located in the region of Gibbston Valley at the old Kinross Station. Thomas Kinross, who used to run a successful gold agency and farm on the site, establishing the estate in the late 1860s. At Kinross, tribute is paid to Thomas and his family, for their hard work and in the early Gibbston community. Thomas’ post office and store were an essential part of the district. He lived for over 60 years in the area and was known as the “Grand Old Man of Gibbston”. The estate, in its modern form, was bought by John Erkkila and Christine from Waikato in 2013.

The team at Kinross envisioned the building of an attractive and modern tasting room, overnight accommodations, and bistro in Gibbston while producing the best possible wine. This is a place for peace and contemplation under the pine trees planted by James and Tom Kinross in the late 1890s. Their orchards, planted by the Kinross over 100 years ago, grow apples, apricots, and grapes.
