Uncover the Story Behind the Wooing Tree and Its Fine Wines
Wooing Tree Vineyard: A Local Treasure
In 2002, Stephen and Thea Farquharson purchased land in Cromwell, New Zealand, and enlisted the expertise of viticulturist Robin Dicey to establish their vineyard. As they developed the property, they learned about the iconic wooing tree, a beloved local landmark known for being a romantic spot for proposals and weddings. This inspired the name of their winery. Today, Wooing Tree Vineyard boasts approximately 44,000 vines, with its first vintage released in 2005.
Of the 26 hectares, 16 are dedicated to Pinot Noir, cultivated on various rootstocks and premium clones.
Winemaking in Central Otago
Central Otago is renowned as New Zealand’s coolest wine region, located at the southern tip of the South Island. It holds the title of the world’s most southerly wine region, characterized by a maritime, dry, and semi-continental climate that experiences significant temperature variations. At Wooing Tree Vineyard, winemaker Carol Bunn leads the production at VinPro winery, which has a capacity exceeding 800 tonnes, with around 85% dedicated to Pinot Noir. The collaborative environment at VinPro ensures that the unique terroir of each vineyard is understood and respected, enhancing the quality of their wines.
