A Tuscan Gem in the Heart of Montepulciano
La Combarbia Winery: Blending Tradition with Innovation
La Combarbia Winery has its roots in the 1960s when Novilio Mariani settled in Cervognano with his family. This picturesque area has a long-standing history of vine cultivation, and Novilio was the first in his family to produce wine here. In 2016, his nephew, Gabriele Florio, took the reins of the winery, aiming to honor the family legacy while integrating modern techniques and machinery into the winemaking process.
The Meaning Behind the Name
The name "Combarbia" translates to "crossroads," symbolizing a gathering place where local farmers would meet in front of the village church. Here, they shared stories and enjoyed the finest Tuscan wines together. By keeping the name Combarbia, the winery reflects a spirit of community and camaraderie.
Signature Wines of La Combarbia
Since its inception, Gabriele has been hands-on in every aspect of production, from vineyard management to bottling. The winery primarily cultivates Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Mammolo grapes, adhering to Tuscan traditions in both vineyard practices and cellar work. The grapes are crafted into exquisite red and white wines, including Nobile di Montepulciano DOC and Toscana IGT. La Combarbia's wines have garnered a loyal following, and the winery is proud to be a member of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which promotes the region's exceptional wines through various initiatives.
