La Combarbia- Winery using Traditional ideas with Modern techniques
The story of La Combarbia started in the sixties when Novilio Mariani came to Cervognano and settled there with his family. This area is known since long for the cultivation of the vine, and he was the first in the family to produce it here. Novilio’s nephew, Gabriele Florio, took over the company in 2016, with the aim of continuing and establishing the family wine business. The purpose was to combine traditional ideas with modern techniques and machinery to cultivate vines and winemaking.
Significance of their Winery Name
The name Combarbia means crossroads, a place where multiple roads come together. The farmers of the village met at Combarbia, in rooms in front of the village Church. They talked to each other and shared their stories and personal facts while sipping on the best Tuscan wine.
The name of the winery was kept Combarbia so that their wines reflect the spirit of brotherhood.
Their Famous Wines
The owner, since starting the business in 2016, personally takes care of all stages of production, from the vineyards till the bottling. In the vineyards, the main grape varieties grown include Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Mammolo. There is a Tuscan tradition in the choice of vines and the work done in the cellar. The grapes are used to make red and white wines of Nobile di Montepulciano DOC and Toscana IGT. The wines are exquisite and loved by their customers. The La Combarbia is also a part of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano that promotes the wine through promotional and commercial initiatives.
