Leconfield and Richard Hamilton an Association of Two Wine Cellars

The winery is an association of two wine cellars, Leconfield and Richard Hamilton is located in the appealing countryside of Coonawarra. The estate produces wines under two pre-eminent labels – Leconfield Coonawarra and Richard Hamilton McLaren Vale. These labels have developed a unique recognition on both the national and international fronts. Leconfield & Richard Hamilton Wines date back to the 1892s and the winery property still has an ancient olive tree on the site.

Over the years, five generations of the Hamilton Family have carried out the same winemaking traditions.

The Hamilton Family, One of the Original Australian Viticulture Families in Adelaide

Among one of the original Australian viticulture families, the Hamilton Family cultivated the first vineyards over 180 years ago in 1837 in Adelaide. Over the years, five generations of Hamiltons have carried out the same family tradition. Today, with complete dedication and love for wines, Dr. Richard Hamilton takes care of the Leconfield Winery, which he has bought from his uncle, Sydney Hamilton. His wife, Jette, also contributes to the production of award-winning wines. Since 2001, Richard has been taking assistance from a respected winemaker, Paul Gordon.

Hand Harvested Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Riesling

The vineyards are extended over the winegrowing regions of McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, and Coonawarra, and enjoy excellent soils and an ideal climate. Among the broad range of grape varieties, Cabernet and Shiraz are the prime varieties. Some other top-notch grapes include Mourvèdre, Merlot, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, and Chardonnay. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are moved to two seperate cellars for soft pressing, followed by fermentation and proper aging.
