Located in the scenic countryside of Coonawarra, Leconfield and Richard Hamilton Wines represent a rich heritage of winemaking. The estate produces exceptional wines under two distinguished labels: Leconfield Coonawarra and Richard Hamilton McLaren Vale. Both labels have gained recognition on national and international stages, with roots tracing back to 1892. A remarkable ancient olive tree still stands on the property, symbolizing the winery's long-standing history.

The Hamilton Family: Pioneers of Australian Viticulture

The Hamilton family is one of the original viticulture families in Australia, having established their first vineyards in Adelaide in 1837. Today, Dr. Richard Hamilton, who inherited the winery from his uncle Sydney Hamilton, continues this legacy with passion and dedication. His wife, Jette, also plays a vital role in crafting their award-winning wines. Since 2001, respected winemaker Paul Gordon has collaborated with Richard to enhance their winemaking process.

Hand-Harvested Grapes for Quality Wines

The vineyards span across renowned wine regions, including McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, and Coonawarra, benefiting from rich soils and a favorable climate. The primary grape varieties include Cabernet and Shiraz, complemented by Mourvèdre, Merlot, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, and Chardonnay. After careful hand harvesting, the grapes are transported to two separate cellars for gentle pressing, fermentation, and aging, ensuring the highest quality in every bottle.
