Birth of Fine Wine

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned winery that is also one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. The winery is run by two generations of the family working with highly skilled winemakers to produce wines that rank alongside the world’s finest. The winery was established in 1972 by Denis and Tricia Horgan with the mentorship of Robert Mondavi, a legendary Napa Valley winemaker. Robert identified the land which has high potential to produce premium wines which led the Horgan family to transform their cattle farm into the Leeuwin estate.

The winery released its first commercial vintage in 1979 which suddenly gained international recognition when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to their Art Series Chardonnay.

The recognition to the international market grew since 1981 and the winery currently exports to 30 countries. Their prestigious Art Series Chardonnay is so exceptional that it is put on the “Heritage Five” celebrating Australia’s most iconic and groundbreaking wines. The same wine is included amongst the top 100 wines of the year by Wine spectator. Their Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon was outstanding and has been included in the Hall of fame of US wine and spirit magazine with a score of 98/100.
