Winery in Alessandria Province of Piedmont Region

Marco Canato Winery is nestled in the picturesque hills of Vignale Monferrato, located in the Alessandria province of Piedmont, Italy. This charming estate is near the historic “Fons Salera” (Salera Spring), renowned for its therapeutic thermal waters.

Rich History of Canato

The estate has a fascinating history, originally belonging to the nuns of the St. Bartholomew cloister in the 1700s. In 1740, the Bishop of Casale Monferrato acquired part of the estate. By the 1950s, the Canato family began leasing the property. Recognizing the exceptional quality of the soil, they decided to cultivate grapes, leading to the establishment of Marco Canato Winery.

Ideal Land for Grape Growing

Spanning over 10 hectares, the vineyards at Marco Canato are meticulously cared for to ensure the highest quality grapes. The harvested grapes are processed and aged in traditional cellars, including the “Infernot,” a unique Piedmontese cellar carved into local tuff stone. The primary grape varieties cultivated here include Barbera, Grignolino, and Chardonnay.
The wines produced at Marco Canato are known for their balanced alcohol content and vibrant acidity, which help to preserve their natural aromas and flavors.

Recognized as one of the leading wine producers in the Alessandria province, Marco Canato Winery has earned its place in the Quattrocalici wine guide.

Producers of Piedmontese red and white wines of unquestionable quality for generations. The Barbera Superiore and the Bianca di Fiur are absolutely worth trying, but whatever choice you make you can't go wrong. Possibility to book a tasting in the cellar.

Grignolino as I had never tasted it before: sparkling and aged for ten years! The dry vinified Moscato is also excellent... and in fact the wines also speak of their author: competent, friendly and hospitable! Winery to visit... every year
