Rich History of Canato
The estate has a fascinating history, originally belonging to the nuns of the St. Bartholomew cloister in the 1700s. In 1740, the Bishop of Casale Monferrato acquired part of the estate. By the 1950s, the Canato family began leasing the property. Recognizing the exceptional quality of the soil, they decided to cultivate grapes, leading to the establishment of Marco Canato Winery.
Ideal Land for Grape Growing
Spanning over 10 hectares, the vineyards at Marco Canato are meticulously cared for to ensure the highest quality grapes. The harvested grapes are processed and aged in traditional cellars, including the “Infernot,” a unique Piedmontese cellar carved into local tuff stone. The primary grape varieties cultivated here include Barbera, Grignolino, and Chardonnay.
The wines produced at Marco Canato are known for their balanced alcohol content and vibrant acidity, which help to preserve their natural aromas and flavors.
Recognized as one of the leading wine producers in the Alessandria province, Marco Canato Winery has earned its place in the Quattrocalici wine guide.
