Château de Fourques, a Female Run Establishment
The history of Château de Fourques traces back to the 18th century. It is located between the villages of Juvignac and St Georges d’Orques, next to Montpellier. The same family has been keeping the secrets of viticulture and winemaking for five generations. This winery has mainly been managed by women since the beginning. Modern equipment allows the winemakers of Château de Fourques to produce wines with a strong expression of the region.
Winemaking at Château de Fourques
The vineyard covers an area of 50 hectares and they have a very large cellar with barrels and tanks. It ranges from ancestral “foudres” in Russian oak to the most innovative stainless steel tanks. Since their aim is to maintain biodiversity, they take special care into maintaining our ecologically valuable areas. These are natural spaces in which birds nest, bees live, and harmonious vegetation with which the vineyard cohabits. At the entrance of the cellar, you can see the imposing door and its large dimensions, a structure made of wood on a solid oak framework. This frame fully supports a roof covered in parfeuilles. It naturally controls the temperatures in the cellar throughout the year. In an oversized 100 m long space, they vinify an average of 3,000 hl of red, rosé and white wine each year.
