Celebrate Women Winemakers in the Heart of Languedoc
Château de Fourques: A Legacy of Women Winemakers
Château de Fourques, established in the 18th century, is nestled between Juvignac and Saint-Georges d'Orques, just a stone's throw from Montpellier. This family-owned estate has been dedicated to the art of viticulture for five generations, with women at the helm since its inception. Utilizing modern winemaking techniques, the team at Château de Fourques crafts wines that truly reflect the essence of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Winemaking Practices at Château de Fourques
Spanning 50 hectares, the vineyard features a spacious cellar equipped with a mix of traditional Russian oak barrels and contemporary stainless steel vats. The estate prioritizes biodiversity, maintaining ecological areas that support local wildlife, including nesting birds and bees. Visitors will be greeted by a striking wooden door framed in solid oak at the cellar entrance, which helps regulate the temperature naturally. Each year, the winery produces around 3,000 hectoliters of red, rosé, and white wines in a remarkable 100-meter-long cellar.
