Federico Stella, the winemaker, inherited Poderi Elia from his grandfather. Born in 1977, Federico has been always fascinated with winemaking. He graduated from Istituto Tecnico Agrario Enologico Statale “Umberto I” in 1997. The winery was established in 1890 by his great grandfather in Nieve, making a spectacular range of wines common to Piedmont. The estate is spread across 9 hectares most of them plated with old vines. Poderi Elia produces Barbera d’Alba Superiore from 45-year-old vines and both the Barbaresco Serracapelli and the Dolcetto d’Alba from 30-year-old vines.

Poderi Elia winery is a family-run winery in piedmont producing top-quality wine with a century-long tradition.

Wines Appreciated By Expers World Wide
Poderi Elia has been producing its signature wines for more than a century using a traditional process. Even today, the winery uses these techniques for making their magnificent wines. The winery has the philosophy to never stand still, setting goals by striving for even higher quality and producing wines that reflects the terroir of Piedmont. Their wines have been reviewed by top wine critics all over the world and have been published every now and then in prestigious magazines. Each bottle is the outcome of a quality oriented activity both in the vineyards and in the winery.

Classic Bottle Fermentation

Initially, St. Laurentius was only based on the Reisling, the winery soon included Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Auxerrois, Elbling, and Chardonnay. Their base wines of the sparkling wines are exclusively made from healthy, hand-picked grapes gently pressing whole grapes. Using the stainless steel tanks where acidity takes place entirely with the Burgundy varieties, the Reisling undergoes biological acid degradation. This goes for the second fermentation process using the classic fermentation process. The winery only uses champagne yeast imported from Champagne which gives their sparkling wines the fine pearly Moussaux and its typical taste.
