Federico Stella, the passionate winemaker at Poderi Elia, took over the family estate from his grandfather. Born in 1977, Federico's love for winemaking blossomed early, leading him to graduate from the Istituto Tecnico Agrario Enologico Statale “Umberto I” in 1997. Established in 1890 by his great-grandfather in Nieve, Poderi Elia spans 9 hectares, primarily featuring old vines. The winery is celebrated for its Barbera d’Alba Superiore, crafted from 45-year-old vines, as well as Barbaresco Serracapelli and Dolcetto d’Alba sourced from 30-year-old vines.

Classic Bottle Fermentation Techniques

Poderi Elia's sparkling wines begin with a blend of carefully selected grapes, including Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Auxerrois, Elbling, and Chardonnay. The base wines are crafted from hand-picked, healthy grapes, which are gently pressed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise control of acidity. The Riesling undergoes biological acid degradation, followed by a second fermentation using classic methods. The winery exclusively employs champagne yeast imported from Champagne, resulting in sparkling wines with a fine, delicate mousse and distinctive flavor.
