Reviving Timorasso, an Ancient Grape of Piedmont
Poggio Azienda Vinicola: Nestled in Val Borbera Valley
Poggio Azienda Vinicola is situated in the picturesque Val Borbera Valley, a hidden gem in the Apennine region of Piedmont. This enchanting valley borders Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, and Lombardy, offering a unique terroir that enriches the winery's lush vineyards with remarkable aromas and flavors.
The Timorasso Heritage
With a history spanning over fifty years, Poggio Azienda Vinicola is now managed by the third generation of the Poggio family. In 2003, Ezio and Mary Poggio founded the winery with a mission to revive Timorasso, an ancient grape variety native to the Borbera Valley. The first harvest of Timorasso took place in 2008, and in 2011, Ezio successfully re-established Terre di Libarna as a sub-area of the Colli Tortonesi, encompassing the Borbera and Spinti Valleys of the Tortona Hills.
Quality Wines from Poggio Azienda Vinicola
Poggio Azienda Vinicola cultivates three grape varieties: Timorasso, Barbera, and Bonarda. From the Timorasso grapes, they produce two types of still wine and a sparkling wine, all sourced exclusively from the Terre di Libarna region. The winery produces around 30,000 bottles of Timorasso each year, alongside a selection of high-quality red, white, and sparkling wines. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the distinct character of Timorasso, a true representation of Piedmont's rich viticultural heritage.
