The History of Pol Couronne Dates Back to 1887
This Domaine takes its name from Pol Auguste Couronne. Born in Hautvillers on October 22, 1862, he founded the Maison Pol Couronne. His birthplace, Hautvillers, is a village on the Montagne de Reims between the cities of Epernay and Reims. It has a special place in history and is quite inspirational. Pol Couronne developed his brand and produced small quantities of Champagne since 1887.
The Success of Pol Couronne
His Champagnes received great appreciation as the quality of Pol Couronne received the agricultural Chevalier Cross of Merit on October 5, 1921, in Paris. Pol Couronnne’s excellence was due to his ambition driven by passion and patience. Currently, Jean Baptiste Auguste Prevost is managing the winery.
Winemaking at Pol Couronne
Maison Pol Couronne follows traditional knowledge of winemaking with sustainable methods and biodynamic principles. They also value the knowledge of their ancestors. The climatic conditions are ideal and and help the vine receive influences from the ocean and the inlands. The Champagne has a strong identity driven by the quality of the soils and the grape varieties. The soil is chalky and grows only a few chosen varieties of grapes such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Coteaux, and Champenois. Pol Couronne represents the region with a delicate blend of quality varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
