A Five Red Star McLaren Vale Winery Crafting Unique Australian Wines
About Smidge Wines
Smidge Wines is the private label of Matt Wenkone, a celebrated winemaker known for his exceptional skills. Previously the chief winemaker at the renowned Two Hands, Matt has a keen eye for selecting the finest vineyards that yield high-quality grapes. His passion for creating distinctive Australian wines began with the winery's inaugural vintage in 2002, which sold out quickly. Since then, Smidge Wines has consistently offered a diverse range of unique wine selections.
At Smidge Wines, only the best grapes are hand-selected for gentle processing.
Reflecting the Region and Grape Varieties
The primary goal of Smidge Wines is to craft memorable wines that resonate with wine enthusiasts. The winery strives to achieve a harmonious blend of science and artistry in winemaking. By carefully selecting top-quality grapes, the winemakers transform them into wines that showcase the region's character, grape varieties, and their dedication to the craft.
Awards and Notable Varietals
Smidge Wines cultivates a variety of grapes, including Shiraz, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fiano, Montepulciano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat a Petite. These grapes are used to produce an array of red, white, rosé, and fortified wines. Notably, the winery received a medal at the Adelaide Hills Show in 2017 for its 2016 Gruner Veltliner and has earned the prestigious Five Red Star rating from the Australian Wine Companion.
