Smidge Wines, a Private Wine Label of Matt Wenkone

Smidge Wines is the private wine label of Matt Wenkone, one of Australia’s most talented and exciting winemakers. Matt was earlier a chief winemaker at the highly coveted Two Hands. At the winery, Matt shows his talent for locating the best vineyards that always produce the best quality grapes helping him to craft unique and high-quality wines. Matt has set up the winery production to create unique Australian wines, as this is his passion. The winery’s first vintage was the 2002 vintage, and all wine was sold out in very little time. Since then, Smidge Wines has continually produced a variety of ecletic wine offerings.
At Smidge Wines, the best-quality grapes are hand-selected and taken for further gentle processing.

Wine Region and Variety Reflection in the Wines of Matt Wenkone

The main aim of the winery is to produce a memorable and truly unique wine for those people who love wine. Smidge Wines wants to attain a perfect balance between science and art for their wines. The best-quality grapes are chosen and taken for further processing. The winemakers transform the grapes into some of the best wines that reflect the quality of the region, grape variety, and their hard work and commitment.

Awards and Medals with Shiraz, Montepulciano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon

The main grapes that grow at Smidge Wines include Shiraz, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fiano, Montepulciano, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat a Petite. Matt uses his grapes to produce some of the best red, white, rosé, and fortified wines. Smidge Wines won a medal at the Adelaide Hills Show in 2017 for its 2016 Gruner Veltliner. The winery is also a Five Red Star Winery from the Australian Wine Companion.
